EXHIBITIONS: THE AMON CARTER MUSEUM HAS A LONG HISTORY OF PRESENTING EXHIBITIONS DEVOTED TO AMERICAN ART, INCLUDING MASTERWORKS ON LOAN FROM ARTISTS AND INSTITUTIONS AROUND THE NATION. THESE INITIATIVES ACHIEVE THE MUSEUM'S OBJECTIVES OF ADVANCING SCHOLARSHIP, SHARING THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF AMERICAN ART IN OUR COMMUNITY, AND EDUCATING BOTH NEW AND REPEAT AUDIENCES THROUGH UNIQUE PROGRAMMING AND MARKETNG OPPORTUNITIES. EXHIBITIONS MAKE AVAILABLE TO DIVERSE AUDIENCES OF ALL AGES SOME OF THE FINEST WORKS OF AMERICAN ART EVER CREATED AND PROVIDE MEANINGFUL CONTEXT FOR THEM. THEY SHED LIGHT ON THE IMPORTANCE AND RELEVANCE OF THE AMON CARTER'S COLLECTION OF AMERICAN ART AND PROMOTE ITS AVAILABILITY AS A FREE RESOURCE FOR ENTERTAINMENT AND LEARNING THROUGH ONSITE TOURS, PUBLIC PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS AND FAMILIES, AND LIVE, TWO-WAY VIDEO CONFERENCES. SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS CONNECT THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUALS FROM THIS COMMUNITY, AROUND THE STATE, AND AROUND THE COUNTRY TO INSPIRING, IMPORTANT ARTWORKS THAT THEY MAY NOT OTHERWISE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE. COLLECTION MANAGEMENT: THE AMON CARTER MUSEUM OPENED IN 1961 IN A BUILDING DESIGNED BY ARCHITECT PHILIP JOHNSON AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN OPEN FREE TO THE PUBLIC. OVER THE YEARS, IT HAS EXPANDED ITS COLLECTION TO INCLUDE NEARLY 8,000 PAINTINGS, SCULPTURE, DRAWINGS, PRINTS, AND WATERCOLORS AND ALMOST 45,000 EXHIBITION QUALITY PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINTS. THE AMON CARTER IS NOW ONE OF THE WORLD'S PREEMINENT MUSEUMS DEVOTED EXCLUSIVELY TO THE STUDY OF AMERICAN ART WITH PREMIER MASTERWORKS BY GREAT AMERICAN ARTISTS OF THE NINETEENTH AND TWENTIETH CENTURIES. THROUGH A SERIES OF ACQUISITIONS, SCHOLARLY CATALOGUES, SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS, AND PUBLIC PROGRAMS, THE AMON CARTER EARLY ON ESTABLISHED ITS REPUTATION AS A NATIONAL LEADER IN COLLECTING AND ADVANCING AMERICAN ART SCHOLARSHIP. THE AMON CARTER IS IN THE MIDST OF A MAJOR INITIATIVE TO DIGITIZE ITS COLLECTIONS WITH THE GOAL OF A FULLY DIGITIZED, CATALOGED, SEARCHABLE, AND ACCESSIBLE ONLINE COLLECTION DATABASE AND INTERNET SITE TO MAKE THE COLLECTIONS AVAILABLE TO ITS EXPANDING AUDIENCES AND TO PROMOTE THE EXPLORATION, SCHOLARSHIP, AND UNDERSTANDING OF AMERICAN ART AND ART HISTORY. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES: THE AMON CARTER MUSEUM OF WESTERN ART'S CURATORIAL DEPARTMENT ORGANIZES A NUMBER OF EXHIBITIONS EACH YEAR HIGHLIGHTING EXEMPLARY WORKS OF AMERICAN ART FOR THE AMON CARTER'S OWN COLLECTION, AS WELL AS WORKS FROM FELLOW FINE ARTS INSTITIUTIONS. IN ADDITION TO THEIR WORK ON THE ORGANIZATION OF EXHIBITIONS, THE CURATORIAL STAFF OF THE AMON CARTER MAKE SCHOLARLY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FIELD OF ART THROUGH LECTURES, SYMPOSIUMS, AND PUBLICATIONS. PUBLICATIONS: THE AMON CARTER MUSEUM OF WESTERN ART PUBLISHES BOOKS THAT SUPPORT ITS MISSION, COLLECTION, AND EXHIBITIONS.
EDUCATION: THE CARTER WELCOMES VISITORS OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES AND IS COMMITTED TO HELPING ALL VISITORS ENJOY ITS EXHIBITIONS AND AMERICAN ART THROUGH ACCESSIBLE FACILITIES, PROGRAMS, AND INCLUSIVE EXPERIENCES. EDUCATION IS CENTRAL TO THE AMON CARTER'S MISSION AND SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY. NEARLY ONE-THIRD OF THE MUSEUM'S ANNUAL AUDIENCE COMES TO THE AMON CARTER AS PART OF A SCHOOL TOUR OR TO PARTICIPATE IN AN ALL AGES EDUCATION PROGRAM. OUR APPROACH FOCUSES ON OUR EXHIBITIONS AND COLLECTION THROUGH DYNAMIC EVENTS THAT HELP PEOPLE SEE THEMSELVES IN OUR ARTWORK WHILE ALLOWING US TO CONNECT WITH THEIR LIFESTYLES. THE AMON CARTER'S PUBLIC PROGRAMS OFFER ADULTS ENGAGING OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN FROM EXPERTS, ARTISTS, AND FROM ONE ANOTHER. PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS HAVE THE CHANCE TO EXPLORE CREATIVITY WHILE GAINING FRESH PERSPECTIVES THROUGH A WIDE RANGE OF EXTRAORDINARY EXPERIENCES WITH ART. ADULTS EXPERIENCE AN ENRICHING, CREATIVE EXPLORATION OF THE MUSEUM'S EXHIBITIONS AND COLLECTION WITH MUSIC, FILM, PERFORMANCES, AND UNEXPECTED CONNECTIONS IN OUR FALL SERIES OR IN THE GALLERIES ON GAME NIGHT.
