TO LEAD, COORDINATE, AND INVOLVE THE COMMUNITY IN IMPROVING MENTAL HEALTH BY ADVOCATING FOR IMPROVED CARE AND TREATMENT OF PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESSES. MHA DALLAS ALSO CONDUCTS PREVENTIVE PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO EQUIP HIGH-RISK POPULATIONS (INCLUDING CHILDREN, THE HOMELESS AND THE INDIGENT) WITH INFORMATION AND SKILLS TO COMBAT STRESS AND ADVERSITY.

WE HELP OURSELVES (WHO) - A NATIONAL ANTI-VICTIMIZATION PROGRAM DEVELOPED BY MHA FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS. PROGRAM TOPICS INCLUDE CHILD ABUSE, NEGLECT, SEXUAL HARASSMENT, VIOLENT ASSAULT, KIDNAPPING, PEER PRESSURE, EMOTIONAL ABUSE AND CYBER-BULLYING.
PUBLIC POLICY - WORKS TO CHANGE POLICIES AND INCREASE SERVICES, FACILITIES AND FUNDING BY EDUCATING POLICY MAKERS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT. THIS INCLUDES MHA'S CRIMINAL JUSTICE INITIATIVE WHICH FOCUSES ON ESTABLISHING A SYSTEM TO PROVIDE MENTAL HEALTHSERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE INCARCERATED, ESTABLISH SYSTEMS AND SERVICES TO DIVERT INDIVIDUALS FROM INCARCERATION INTO COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES AND PROVIDE TRAINING ON MENTAL HEALTH TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AND JUDICIAL PERSONNEL. MHA SPONSORS THE COALITION ON MENTAL ILLNESS (COMI), WHICH ADDRESSES ISSUES AFFECTING MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT.
