WINGS ACHIEVED POSITIVE OUTCOMES TO SERVE OVER 705 WOMEN THIS FISCAL YEAR. SINCE 1999, OUR MISSION HAS BEEN TO SERVE THE SOUTH TEXAS UNDERSERVED-UNINSURED COMMUNITY WITH IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO NO-COST PATIENT NAVIGATION, BREAST CANCER CARE AND TREATMENT SERVICES ELIMINATING ALL FINANCIAL BARRIERS TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN BREAST CANCER DETECTION AND TREATMENT. WINGS I - ACTIVE CARE PROGRAM SERVES THOSE WHO NEED SCREENING AND/OR HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER AND IN IMMEDIATE NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION AND SERVICES TO BEGIN CARE WITH THE GOAL TO BECOME CANCER FREE; AN APPROXIMATE TWO-AND-HALF YEAR JOURNEY. ONCE DIAGNOSED CANCER FREE THEY ARE ENROLLED INTO WINGS II.IN 2021, WINGS RECEIVED AND ENROLLED THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF WOMEN SEEKING COMPREHENSIVE BREAST CANCER CARE IN ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY. SEVENTY-SEVEN (77) UNDERSERVED-UNINSURED INDIVIDUALS APPLIED TO THE PROGRAM. OF THESE WOMEN, SEVENTY-ONE (71) PARTICIPANTS, 92% QUALIFIED AND RECEIVED IMMEDIATE PATIENT NAVIGATION SERVICES, TRANSLATION SERVICES, ACCESS TO LIFE-SAVING MEDICAL TREATMENT AND SERVICES INCLUDING MAMMOGRAMS, BIOPSIES, SURGERIES, CHEMOTHERAPY, RADIATION, LABS, SCANS, MEDICATIONS, DOCTOR VISITS, ETC., EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING, PROSTHETIC SUPPLIES, RESOURCES AND REFERRAL SERVICES. WINGS ENROLLED 19 NEW PARTICIPANTS INTO THE WINGS I PROGRAM AND RENEWED 52 EXISTING WINGS PARTICIPANTS.IN-KIND ASSISTANCE - $356,922
WINGS II CONTINUUM CARE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT AND TRANSITION PARTICIPANTS FROM WINGS I ACTIVE CARE WHO HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED CANCER-FREE AND NOW IN REMISSION WHO STILL REQUIRE CONTINUED MEDICAL CARE AND TREATMENT SERVICES INCLUDING ANNUAL MAMMOGRAMS, BIOPSIES LABS, DOCTOR VISITS, MEDICATION, PROSTHETIC SUPPLIES, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING, RESOURCES AND REFERRAL SERVICES ETC.; A FIVE-YEAR COURSE OF CARE. WINGS TRANSITIONED 2 PARTICIPANTS INTO WINGS II AND RENEWED 20 PARTICIPANTS. AFTER FIVE YEARS, INDIVIDUALS ARE TRANSITIONED INTO WINGS FOR LIFE.
WINGS FOR LIFE PROGRAMMING ALLOWS FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, AND PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING. WINGS' IMPROVES ACCESS BY ADDRESSING PERSONAL BARRIERS: IMPROVING HEALTH-LITERACY, RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT RISK- FACTORS AND EARLY DETECTION TO REDUCE FEAR ABOUT SEEKING CARE FOR BREAST CONCERNS. THE WINGS TEAM SUCCESSFULLY TRANSITIONED REMOTE AND VIRTUAL PATIENT NAVIGATION AND ASSISTANCE PROGRAM SERVICES, TO IN-PERSON DELIVERY, MEETING ALL CDC COMPLIANCE MEASURES OVERCOMING COVID19 BARRIERS TO FULFILL THE MISSION. IN ADDITION TO REGULARLY MEETING WITH PROSPECTIVE ENROLLEES' ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS AND PROVIDERS, THE WINGS TEAM PROVIDED 705 PARTICIPANTS WITH BREAST HEALTH CARE EDUCATIONAL AND PPE MATERIALS VIA DIRECT-MAIL CAMPAIGNS.
