HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF EL PASO'S HOME REPAIR PROGRAM MIRRORS THE HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM, BY PARTNERING WITH LOW INCOME FAMILIES WHO OWN THEIR OWN HOME BUT ARE UNABLE TO AFFORD THE CRITICAL REPAIRS NECESSARY TO PRESERVE THE HOME. THE HABITAT REPAIR PROGRAM ADDRESSES CRITICAL ISSUES TO STABILIZE HOMES, WEATHERIZATION WORK TO INCREASE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND REDUCE UTILITY BILLS, AND ADAPTIVE AGING-IN-PLACE IMPROVEMENTS TO HELP ELDERLY AND SPECIAL NEEDS HOMEOWNERS LIVE MORE SAFELY AND SELF-SUFFICIENTLY. THE HOMEOWNERS CONTRIBUTE SWEAT EQUITY WORK AND PAY NO INTEREST LOANS FOR THE COST OF THE PROJECT MATERIALS.
THE RESTORE IS A DISCOUNT HOME IMPROVEMENT STOREFRONT OPERATED BY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF EL PASO. THE RESTORE ACCEPTS DONATIONS OF NEW AND GENTLY-USED FURNITURE, APPLIANCES, BUILDING SUPPLIES, AND HOME GOODS TO RESELL TO THE PUBLIC AT REDUCED COSTS. PROFIT FROM THE RESTORE IS RETURNED TO HABITAT TO FUND HOMEBUILDING AND HOME REPAIR PROJECTS. THE RESTORE BENEFITS SHOPPERS AS A LOW COST SOURCE OF HOME GOODS; IT PROVIDES DONORS WITH AN EASY WAY TO DISPOSE OF UNWANTED ITEMS AND MATERIALS THAT MIGHT OTHERWISE BE THROWN AWAY; AND IT HELPS THE ENVIRONMENT BY KEEPING GOOD QUALITY, USABLE ITEMS OUT OF THE LANDFILL.
