AUSTIN ROWING CLUB IS DEDICATED TO ADVANCING THE SPORT OF ROWING THROUGH QUALITY PROGRAMMING AND REGATTAS IN AUSTIN, TEXAS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
ADULT ROWING PROGRAMMING - AUSTIN ROWING CLUB MANAGES FACILITIES AND PROVIDES EQUIPMENT AND INSTRUCTION TO PROMOTE RECREATIONAL AND COMPETITIVE ROWING IN CENTRAL TEXAS. WE OFFER INTRODUCTORY ROWING CLASSES, FREE LEARN-TO-ROW DAYS, AND TEAM BUILDING OUTINGS TO INTRODUCE THE SPORT OF ROWING TO NEW PARTICIPANTS. WE ALSO OFFER SWEEP AND SCULLING PROGRAMMING FOR MASTERS ROWERS AND SUMMER STUDENT MEMBERSHIPS FOR COLLEGIATE ROWERS, AND OUR ROW-FREE PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE TO THOSE IN NEED OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. WE CURRENTLY SERVE APPROXIMATELY 430 ORGANIZATION MEMBERS (NOT INCLUSIVE OF JUNIOR USERS BELOW) AND 300 VISITORS.
JUNIOR ROWING PROGRAMMING - AUSTIN ROWING CLUB JUNIORS PROGRAM IS DEDICATED TO TEACHING THE SPORT OF ROWING TO 6TH-12TH GRADE STUDENTS AND IS OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS IN AUSTIN AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE TO THOSE DEMONSTRATING FINANCIAL NEED. WE CURRENTLY SERVE AROUND 140 STUDENTS IN THE SPRING AND FALL SEMESTERS AS WELL AS PROVIDING OVER 40,000 OF OUTREACH TO CITY YOUTH. THE JUNIORS PROGRAM STRESSES HEALTHY LIVING THROUGH PHYSICAL FITNESS, NUTRITION AND GOOD HABITS. IT ALSO TEACHES LIFE LESSONS IN SELF- DISCIPLINE, MOTIVATION, CONFIDENCE, PERSEVERANCE, GOAL SETTING, TIME MANAGEMENT AND THE REWARDS OF HARD WORK. THE ARC JUNIOR COMPETITIVE PROGRAM COMPETES AT THE REGIONAL, STATE AND NATIONAL LEVELS, AND MANY PARTICIPANTS ARE RECRUITED TO COLLEGIATE PROGRAMS.
REGATTAS - IN MOST YEARS AUSTIN ROWING CLUB HOSTS THREE MAJOR REGATTAS ANNUALLY - THE HEART OF TEXAS, TEXAS ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS, AND THE HEAD OF THE COLORADO. WE PROVIDE A COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR PARTICIPANTS TO DEMONSTRATE THEIR SKILL WHILE ALLOWING SPECTATORS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE SPORT OF ROWING. THESE EVENTS DRAW PARTICIPANTS TO AUSTIN THREE WEEKENDS OF THE YEAR FROM ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES. GENERALLY THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 2,500 ROWERS ENTERED IN THESE REGATTAS. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, AUSTIN ROWING CLUB CANCELLED THE HEART OF TEXAS REGATTA DURING 2021 BUT DID HOLD THE HEAD OF THE COLORADO (HOC). THE OTHERS WERE CLOSED BY THE CITY OF AUSTIN AND USROWING.
