THE MISSION OF THE SOCIETY, AS STATED IN ARTICLE II OF ITS CONSTITUTION, IS AS FOLLOWS: PI MU EPSILON IS A NON-SECRET ORGANIZATION WHOSE PURPOSE IS THE PROMOTION OF SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY IN MATHEMATICS AMONG STUDENTS AT ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS. PI MU EPSILON ACCOMPLISHES THIS PURPOSE BY: 1. ELECTING STUDENT MEMBERS ON AN HONORARY BASIS ACCORDING TO THEIR PROFICIENCY IN MATHEMATICS. 2. ENGAGING IN ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO PROMOTE THE MATHEMATICAL AND SCHOLARLY DEVELOPMENT OF ITS UNDERGRADUATE MEMBERS.

REINFORCE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP AND RESEARCH IN MATHEMATICS THROUGH DIRECT SUPPORT OF STUDENT MEMBERS AT OUR NATIONAL CONFERENCE; $96,653 WAS AWARDED TO STUDENTS TO DEFRAY TRAVEL AND SUBSISTENCE AND COSTS; $5,650 OF SUPPORT WAS USED INDIRECTLY TO SUPPORT STUDENTS AT THE CONFERENCE. THIS INCLUDES SUPPORTING AN INVITED LECTURER, PARTNER COSTS, AND SOME EXHIBITING COSTS.


ENCOURAGEMENT OF STUDENT AUTHORSHIP AND READING OF MATHEMATICAL RESEARCH ARTICLES APPEARING IN THE PI MU EPSILON JOURNAL. $18,987 IN PRODUCTION AND COSTS USED TO PROVIDE ONE-YEAR SUBSCRIPTIONS TO ALL NEW MEMBERS AND SUBSCRIPTIONS AND RENEWALS TO INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS.


FUND MATHEMATICAL CONFERENCES AND PRIZE CONTESTS TO RECOGNIZE OUTSTANDING MATHEMATICS ACHIEVEMENT, PROMOTE UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP, AND INCREASE LEVEL OF ACTIVITIES AT THE SOCIETY'S LOCAL CHAPTERS BY GIVING GRANTS TO PARTIALLY FUND LOCAL CONFERENCES, PRIZE/SPEAKER AWARDS, AND INVITED SPEAKERS.
