THE OKLAHOMA VISUAL ARTS COALITION GROWS AND DEVELOPS OKLAHOMA'S VISUAL ARTS COMMUNITY THROUGH EDUCATION, PROMOTION, CONNECTION, AND FUNDING.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

EDUCATION: ENCOURAGING GREATER PUBLIC APPRECIATION AND UNDERSTANDING OF OKLAHOMA ART AND ARTISTS, OVAC PRODUCES ART FOCUS OKLAHOMA MAGAZINE, AN ART STUDIO TOUR, A TRIENNIAL OKLAHOMA ART WRITING & CURATORIAL FELLOWSHIP, AND THE VIRTUAL GALLERY, A SEARCHABLE DATABASE OF 400 ARTISTS LIVING AND WORKING IN OKLAHOMA. THIS YEAR, ART FOCUS OKLAHOMA ANNUALLY HIGHLIGHTS THE WORK OF 74 ARTISTS, 34 CONTRIBUTING WRITERS AND A GUEST EDITOR IN FOUR QUARTERLY ISSUES REACHING A LOCAL, REGIONAL AND NATIONAL READERSHIP OF MORE THAN 10,000 PER ISSUE BOTH IN PRINT AND ONLINE. THE TULSA ART STUDIO TOUR SHOWCASED 10 ARTISTS AND HOSTED 200 VISITORS IN A SELF-GUIDED, EDUCATIONAL TOUR.


EXHIBITIONS: OVAC ORGANIZES CURATED ANNUAL AND TRIENNIAL EXHIBITIONS ART 365, CONCEPT, 24 WORKS ON PAPER, AND MOMENTUM, WHICH HIGHLIGHT AND CONNECT THE PUBLIC TO OKLAHOMA'S DIVERSE ARTISTIC TALENT. EXHIBITIONS ARE PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH HOST GALLERIES IN MULTIPLE CITIES ACROSS THE STATE. MOMENTUM FEATURES OKLAHOMA ARTISTS AGES 30 AND YOUNGER WORKING IN A VARIETY OF MEDIA, PRESENTING A DIVERSIFIED LOOK AT THE YOUNG ARTISTIC TALENT IN OKLAHOMA. THE 2022 EXHIBITION FEATURED 62 ARTISTS AND CONNECTED 1254 VIEWERS TO THE EXHIBITION. THE ARTISTS SOLD A RECORD TOTAL OF $12,596 IN ARTWORK AND RECEIVED $3,750 IN STIPENDS AND AWARDS. 24 WORKS ON PAPER INCLUDES ARTWORK FROM PRACTICING OKLAHOMA ARTISTS AND TRAVELS TO 10 LOCATIONS AROUND THE STATE, WITH ONE STOP IN EACH OF OUR TWO LARGEST CITIES AND 8 SITES IN RURAL COMMUNITIES. IN FY22, THE TRIENNIAL EXHIBITION ART 365 FEATURED 6 ARTISTS AND FUNDED 5 NEW EXPERIMENTAL ART PROJECTS WITH THE GUIDANCE OF A GUEST CURATOR. THE EXHIBITION OPENED IN BOTH TULSA AND OKC AND HAD A TOTAL OF 2,545 AUDIENCE MEMBERS. EACH ARTIST OR ARTIST TEAM HOSTED A FREE OUTREACH WORKSHOP IN BOTH COMMUNITIES WITH A TOTAL OF 174 PARTICIPANTS. EACH ARTIST TEAM RECEIVED A $12,000 STIPEND, FOR A TOTAL OF $60,000 IN CASH AWARDS TO THE ARTISTS. THE ART 365 ARTIST VIDEOS RECEIVED A TOTAL 3,512 VIEWS. A CATALOG WAS MAILED OUT TO MORE THAN 700 GALLERIES, UNIVERSITIES, CURATORS, LIBRARIES, AND MUSEUMS NATIONWIDE.


ARTIST PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND FUNDING RESOURCES: THROUGH OUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND FUNDING PROGRAMS, WE EQUIP ARTISTS WITH MUCH-NEEDED CAREER- BUILDING SKILLS AND GRANTS/AWARDS SO THEY CAN SUSTAIN THEMSELVES FINANCIALLY, SET AND REACH GOALS, PREPARE THEIR WORK FOR PRESENTATION, AND REACH COLLECTORS, CURATORS, GALLERISTS, AND AUDIENCES. THE ARTIST SURVIVAL KIT (ASK) PROGRAM PROVIDES WORKSHOPS, OFFICE HOURS, PANELS AND FORUMS ON TOPICS SUCH AS PUBLIC ART SELECTION: HOW TO PRESENT YOUR PROPOSAL, EQUITABLE ARTS EVENTS, MARKETING FOR ARTISTS, AND EXHIBITION READY. LAST YEAR, WE HELD 12 ASK EVENTS THAT INCLUDED OUR USUAL FORMATS, AS WELL AS NEW ART CRIT NIGHTS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH 21C THAT HAD AN ATTENDANCE OF OVER 300. THROUGH OUR ONLINE RESOURCES AND NEWSLETTER OF RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES, WE REACH 606 ARTISTS. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ANDY WARHOL FOUNDATION FOR THE VISUAL ARTS, WE AWARDED 12 ANNUAL GRANTS OF $5,000 EACH FOR A TOTAL OF $60,000 AWARDED TO OKLAHOMA ARTISTS FOR COMMUNITY ARTS PROJECTS. TO FURTHER SUPPORT ARTISTS AND THEIR CREATIVE PROJECTS WE AWARDED 4 FELLOWSHIPS AND 26 QUARTERLY GRANTS FOR AN ADDITIONAL TOTAL OF $26,073.
