THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE (RMH) AT OKLAHOMA CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IS A WELCOMING "HOME-AWAY-FROM-HOME" WHICH PROVIDES TEMPORARY LODGING, MEALS, AND SUPPORT TO FAMILIES OF HOSPITALIZED CHILDREN. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES FAMILIES WITH EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL COMFORT AND INCREASES THE CAREGIVERS' ABILITY TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH THEIR CHILD, INTERACT WITH THEIR CLINICAL CARE TEAM AND TO PARTICIPATE IN CRITICAL MEDICAL CARE DECISIONS. IN 2021, THE RMH PROVIDED A TOTAL OF 3,950 NIGHTS STAY TO 293 FAMILIES AT NO CHARGE TO FAMILIES.
WHEN DEALING WITH THE UNCERTAINTY OF THEIR CHILD'S CRITICAL ILLNESS, PARENTS MAY BE RELUCTANT TO LEAVE THE HOSPITAL FOR SELF-CARE. THE RONALD MCDONALD FAMILY ROOM (RMFR) LOCATED ON THE 6TH FLOOR OF OKLAHOMA CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL SERVES AS A PLACE OF RESPITE, JUST STEPS AWAY FROM WHERE THEIR CHILD IS BEING TREATED. THE RMFR PROVIDES PARENTS WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO REST, HAVE A SNACK OR HAVE A MOMENT OF QUIET, SO THEY CAN PROVIDE COMFORT AND SUPPORT TO THEIR CHILD AND BE AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THEIR CHILD'S HEALTHCARE TEAM.
