THE ADULT LEARNING CENTER PROVIDED BASIC ADULT EDUCATION SERVICES TO OVER 100 ADULTS TO UPGRADE THEIR SKILLS IN MATH, READING, WRITING SOCIAL STUDIES, SCIENCE, AND COMPUTER; PREPARE FOR THE HISET AND EARN THEIR DIPLOMAS; PREPARE FOR ENROLLMENT IN COLLEGE OR SOME OTHER POST-SECONDARY TRAINING PROGRAM. DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR, 10 STUDENTS EARNED THEIR DIPLOMAS. 70% OF THE STUDENTS WHO PRE-TESTED AND POST-TESTED, MOVED UP AT LEAST 1 NRS LEVEL.


EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE PROVIDED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES FACING EVICTION, LOSS OF UTILITIES, ETC. ASSISTANCE WAS ALSO PROVIDED FOR FUNERALS, TWIC CARDS, HISET TESTING AND SECURITY DEPOSITS. BY THE NUMBERS: 70 RENTAL PAYMENTS, COSTING $32,289; 341 UTILITY PAYMENTS, COSTING $60864; $880 FOR 7 TWIC CARDS; $1013 FOR 22 HISET TESTING FEES; $2650 FOR 8 FUNERALS AND SMALL AMOUNTS FOR SEVERAL OTHER SITUATIONS.


COMMUNITY ADVOCACY AND ORGANIZING INVOLVED ASSISTING PEOPLE WITH FOOD STAMP, UNEMPLOYMENT, PUBLIC HOUSING, MEDICAID, COLLEGE APPLICATIONS. OTHER ACTIVITIES INVOLVED ORGANIZING NEIGHBORS TO DEMAND BETTER LIVING CONDITIONS, NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES, ETC. ALSO ADAVOCATING FOR INDIVIDUALS HAVING DISPUTES WITH LANDLORDS, UTILITY COMPANIES, BUSINESSES, ETC.
