THE MONIES RECEIVED FROM RESALE ITEMS, THAT ARE REFLECTED IN THE FIGURE ABOVE, ARE USED TO PAY THE EXPENSES WHICH HELP TO SUPPORT THE ALTAPASS FOUNDATIONS EXEMPT PURPOSE, PROGRAMS, AND MISSION. THE APPLE ORCHARD ON THE FOUNDATION PROPERTY WAS STARTED IN 1903 AND IS THE ONLY "YOU PICK ORCHARD IN THE AREA. IT WAS STARTED BY THE CLINCHFIELD RAILROAD. CHILDREN LEARN ABOUT FAMILY TRADITION AND THIS ALSO PROVIDES EMPLOYMENT FOR AREA FAMILIES. IT PROVIDES "HERITAGE" APPLES AS THEY WERE THE FIRST APPLES GROWN ON THIS CONTINENT.
CULTURAL HERITAGE PROGRAM-ARTISTS, CRAFTSMEN, MUSICIANS, STORYTELLERS DISPLAY, PERFORM, DEMONSTRATE AND SELL THEIR WARES AT AN OPEN MARKET AND OPEN COMMUNITY PICNIC. THERE IS HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS AREA AS THERE IS AN ANNUAL RE-ENACTMENT OF THE BATTLE OF KINGS MOUNTAIN, A TURNING POINT IN THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR. APPROXIMATELY 500 SCHOOL CHILDREN LEARN OF THIS HISTORICAL EVENT EACH YEAR.
LAND, NATURE, AGRICULTURAL PRESERVATION TRAILS, AND CHILDRENS PROGRAMS TO EDUCATE AND INVOLVE THE CHILDREN IN THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE APPALACHIAN FLORA AND FAUNA. THERE ARE 150 PERFORMANCES HERE ANNUALLY.
