THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES ACTION SPORTS TRAINING AND OPPORTUNITIES TO ADAPTIVE ATHLETES, AND TO RECOGNIZE THE ABILITY, POTENTIAL AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF ADAPTIVE ATHLETES TO EXCEL IN SPORTS CONSIDERED TO BE AMONG THE MOST CHALLENGING.

IN 2023, AAS LARGEST SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENT WAS ITS PROVIDING OF SNOWBOARD TRAINING AND COMPETITION OPPORTUNITIES. AAS SNOWBOARD TEAM MEMBERS, ACCOMPANIED BY THEIR COACHES, PARTICIPATED IN FOUR 2023 INTERNATIONAL IPC/WORLD CUP EVENTS AND ONE NATIONAL COMPETITION. AT-HOME TRAINING CONTINUED AT COPPER MOUNTAIN, CO, FROM JANUARY THROUGH MID-APRIL 2023 TO COMPLETE THE 2022-23 SNOW SEASON. APPROXIMATELY $2,000 WAS EXPENDED IN LATE 2023 FOR ADVANCE BOOKINGS FOR AN EARLY 2024 SNOW-CAT TEAM TRAINING IN MONTANA.


IN 2023, AAS CONTINUED OPERATING AND PROVIDING AN ATHLETE CENTER WHERE AAS TRAINEES AND PARTICIPANTS GATHER BEFORE AND AFTER TRAINING AT AAS COPPER MOUNTAIN, CO, LOCATION. A SUBSTANTIAL PORTION OF THE YEAR WAS SPENT ON RENOVATING, RELOCATING AND EXPANDING THE CENTER WHICH PROVIDES ACCESSIBLE SPACE FOR SAFETY INSTRUCTION, WARM UP/COOL DOWN ACTIVITIES, EQUIPMENT INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE, SOCIALIZATION AND GENERAL ATHLETE SUPPORT. ADDITIONALLY, THE CENTER HOUSES AND PROVIDES A LOGITECH E-SPORTS TOURNAMENT PROGRAM IN WHICH ADAPTIVE GAMERS CAN COMPETE IN THE WORLD OF E-SPORTS FOR CASH AND PRIZES.


IN 2023, AAS LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR REVITALIZING ITS PREVIOUS SKATEBOARD TRAINING AND COMPETITION ACTIVITIES. APPROXIMATELY HALF OF AAS 2023 SKATEBOARD EXPENDITURES WENT TOWARD A SKATE CAMP TOUR IN WHICH AAS RIDERS TRAVELLED THROUGHOUT COLORADO WITH COACHES RECOGNIZED BY SKATE ENTHUSIASTS FOR THEIR ELITE RIDING SKILLS. THE PURPOSE OF THE TOUR WAS TO LAY A FOUNDATION FOR RECOGNIZING THE ABILITIES AND POTENTIAL OF ADAPTIVE RIDERS WITH THE GOAL OF INCORPORATING THEM INTO NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL SKATEBOARD EVENTS, WHICH TO DATE HAVE BEEN GENERALLY LIMITED TO ABLE-BODIED ATHLETES.


OTHER PROGRAM SERVICE EXPENSES INCLUDE OPERATIONAL COSTS IN THE FORM OF INSURANCE, LOCAL TRANSPORTATION AND SUPPLIES, AS WELL AS PROGRAM OUTREACH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION.
