SOUTH FLORIDA BAPTIST HOSPITAL SURGERY CENTER IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF OUR OVERALL SUCCESS. OUR SURGERY CENTER CARES FOR THOUSANDS OF PATIENTS ANNUALLY. OUR SERVICES RANGE FROM ENDOSCOPY TO ADVANCED ROBOTIC ORTHOPEDIC PROCEDURES. MOST OF OUR CASES REQUIRE ANESTHESIA. IN 2022, SFBH FOUNDATION SUPPORTED THE SURGERY DEPARTMENT BY PURCHASING 3 NEW AVANCE CS2 ANESTHESIA MACHINES AT $237,394. THESE STATE-OF-THE-ART MACHINES WILL PROVIDE OUR PATIENTS WITH HIGH QUALITY CARE FOR YEARS TO COME. IN 2024, WE'LL BE MOVING TO A NEW LARGER FACILITY THAT WILL ALLOW FOR MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROCEDURES TO SERVE OUR PLANT CITY COMMUNITY. SFBH FOUNDATION ALSO PROVIDES SUPPORT TO SFBH IN THE FORM OF SMALLER PIECES OF EQUIPMENT, SUPPLIES, AND OTHER ASSISTANCE AS DOCUMENTED AND REQUESTED BY SFBH.
THE FOUNDATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS HAS APPROVED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT EDUCATION AND TRAINING. $24,000 WAS AWARDED TO 11 DESERVING STUDENTS AND TEAM MEMBERS TO PURSUE COLLEGE DEGREES IN HEALTH-RELATED FIELDS, NURSING DEGREES AND CONFERENCES TO ADVANCE SKILL SETS.
THE SURGERY CENTER ALSO NEEDS UPDATED EQUIPMENT TO SERVE OUR SURGEONS AND PATIENTS. IN 2022 WE SUPPORTED THREE SURGICAL SERVICE LINES WITH EQUIPMENT: A. ROBOTIC ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY - THE MAKO ROBOT ALLOWS FOR PRECISION ACCURACY WHEN OUR ORTHOPEDIC SURGEONS PERFORM JOINT REPLACEMENTS. THE FOUNDATION PURCHASED MAKO HIP REAMER HANDLES TO ASSIST WITH HIP REPLACEMENT SURGERY. THE COST WAS $24,606. B. GENERAL SURGERY - MEDTRONIC ESOPHAGEAL MANOMETRY PROBE / CATHETER IS USED TO DETECT THE NARROWING OR OBSTRUCTION IN THE ESOPHAGUS. THE CATHETER HAS A LIMITED LIFE SPAN AND MUST BE REPLACED FOR CONTINUED USE. THE COST WAS $27,260. C. BARIATRIC SURGERY - SFBH HAS A CERTIFIED BARIATRIC SURGERY PROGRAM. THE FOUNDATION HAS SUPPORTED THIS INITIATIVE FOR MANY YEARS. IN 2022 A BARIATRIC PATIENT LIFT WAS PURCHASED TO SUPPORT THE PATIENT IN THEIR HOSPITAL ROOM. THIS WAY THE NURSING TEAM CAN SAFELY TRANSPORT THE PATIENT BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY FROM THEIR BED TO A CHAIR, WHEELCHAIR, OR GURNEY. THIS IMPORTANT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT WAS $8,576. ADDITIONALLY, THE FOUNDATION PURCHASED A GLIDESCOPE, AN AIRWAY VISUALIZATION SYSTEM FOR VIDEO LARYNGOSCOPY, BRONCHOSCOPY, AND OTHER AIRWAY PROCEDURES. THIS PIECE OF EQUIPMENT WAS $15,583.
SOUTH FLORIDA BAPTIST HOSPITAL DELIVERS APPROXIMATELY 500 BABIES PER YEAR. OUR LABOR & DELIVERY DEPARTMENT PERFORMS C-SECTIONS WHEN NECESSARY FOR A SAFE BIRTH. A STRYKER NEPTUNE 3 ROVER OB C- SECTION WAS PURCHASED FOR $25,075. THIS DEVISE MEASURES BLOOD AND FLUID LOSS DURING BIRTH TO BETTER MONITOR MOM'S HEALTH. THE RESULTS ALSO GIVE THE PHYSICIAN INFORMATION TO PRESCRIBE IMPORTANT FOLLOW UP MONITORING AND TESTING AFTER THE DELIVERY.
