ROTARY CLUB OF JACKSON MEETS EVERY MONDAY AT NOON, EXCEPT HOLIDAYS, AND HAS IMPORTANT GUEST SPEAKERS WHO PRESENT INTERESTING AND ENLIGHTENING PROGRAMS AT EVERY WEEKLY MEETING. THE ORGANIZATION HAS MANY SERVICE PROJECTS IN WHICH MEMBERS VOLUNTEER BOTH FINANCIALLY AND WITH THEIR TIME. PROJECTS INCLUDE: PURCHASING AND DELIVERING ROTARY DICTIONARIES/THESAURUS TO EVERY THIRD GRADE JACKSON PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS AND STUDENTS; AND READING TO STUDENTS AT TWO DIFFERENT ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS; ASSISTING WITH TEACHING PRESCHOOL CHILDREN HOW TO READ; PARTICIPATING IN DELIVERING INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED CHRISTMAS GIFTS TO 5 LOCAL AREA NURSING HOMES; PROVIDING A CHRISTMAS PARTY AT CANOPY CHILDREN'S SOLUTIONS AS WELL AS DELIVERING INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED GIFTS FOR EACH CHILD AND HOUSE GIFTS FOR EACH HOUSE ON CAMPUS; EACH QUARTER RECOGNIZING OUTSTANDING POLICE OFFICERS THROUGH THE COMMUNITY PARTNERS PROGRAM AND THE EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION PROGRAM CELEBRATES PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS WITH A FINANCIAL GIFT; THEY DELIVER EASTER BASKETS TO RESIDENTS AT TWO NURSING HOMES; DONATING HOT MEALS TO THE YOUNG FUTURIST AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM AND THE FRIENDSHIP CONNECTION WHICH IS AN ADDICTION TREATMENT CENTER FOR WOMEN; PURCHASING AND DISTRIBUTING CHESS KITS FOR 3 JACKSON PUBLIC SCHOOLS; AND SERVING AS SALVATION ARMY KETTLE BELL RINGERS. IN 2020, THE CITY OF JACKSON WAS HAVING A WATER CRISIS AND THE ROTARY CLUB OF JACKSON HELD A BOTTLED WATER DRIVE THROUGH GIVE AWAY TO RESIDENTS OF JACKSON WHO WERE WITHOUT WATER. TWO WEEKS LATER, THIS RESULTED IN A BOTTLED WATER GIVEAWAY OF SIX SEMI-TRUCKS OF BOTTLED WATER THAT PROVIDED 5 COMMUNITIES IN THE JACKSON METRO AREA WITH MUCH NEEDED WATER.
THE ORGANIZATION, THROUGH IT'S MEMBERS, RAISED FUNDS FOR THE ROTARY CLUB CHARITIES, A 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION. ROTARY CLUB CHARITIES PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS IN THE CLUB SERVICE AREA.
