INROADS TO EMPLOYMENT WAS A THREE YEAR INITIATIVE THAT ENDED FEBRUARY 29, 2021. IT WAS FUNDED BY THE NORTH CAROLINA COUNCIL ON DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. DISABILITYIN: NORTH CAROLINA (DI-NC) CREATED A CENTRALIZED INFRASTRUCTURE THAT WILL SERVE AS THE BACKBONE ORGANIZATION FOR THE STATE NETWORK OF BUSINESSES, EMPLOYMENT AGENCIES, SCHOOL SYSTEMS, COMMUNITY COLLEGES AND INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES AND THEIR FAMILIES TO ACT IN CONCERT AS CHAMPIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT. LISTED BELOW WERE THE GOALS OF THIS THREE YEAR INITIATIVE: #1 DEVELOP UP TO THREE REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIPS IN HIGH DEMAND (HEALTH CARE, TECHNOLOGY AND BUSINESS), YET ACHIEVABLE, CAREER PATHWAYS FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH I/DD. #2 DEVELOP COLLABORATIONS BETWEEN TWO PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS TO ADVANCE PRE-ETS SERVICES AND EXPAND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT OPTIONS FOR YOUTH WITH I/DD AGES 14-21. #3 STRENGTHEN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DISABILITY SERVICES AND CAREER SERVICES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM AND PROVIDE BUSINESS MENTORING OPPORTUNITIES FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS WITH I/DD. THIS INITIATIVE ENDED FEBRUARY 29, 2021.
THE NC EMPLOYMENT COLLABORATIVE WAS A THREE YEAR INITIATIVE FUNDED BY THE NORTH CAROLINA COUNCIL ON DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. PARTNER AGENCIES ON THIS COLLABORATIVE INITIATIVE INCLUDE, NC COMMERCE, DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES, COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEMS, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARDS, BUSINESS REPRESENTATIVES AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES. DI-NC IS THE ONLY BUSINESS TO BUSINESS NETWORK IN NC FOCUSED ON EMPOWERING BUSINESSES TO ACHIEVE DISABILITY INCLUSION AND EQUALITY FOR ALL. THE GOALS OF THIS INITIATIVE WILL SERVE TO ENHANCE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR NORTH CAROLINIANS WITH DISABILITIES AS THEY SEEK EMPLOYMENT THROUGH THEIR LOCAL NC WORKS CAREER CENTERS.
IN 2021, DISABILITY:IN NORTH CAROLINA HOSTED THREE EVENTS, DRAWING OVER 200 ATTENDEES CUMULATIVELY, THAT INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING: WELLNESS@WORK EVENT IN MAY 2021- THIS EVENT RECOGNIZED MAY AS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH AND FOCUSING ON CREATING CULTURES OF INCLUSION AMONG EMPLOYEES WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. ADA CELEBREATION EVENT IN JULY 2021 - THIS EVENT FEATURED A SCREENING OF THE DOCUMENTARY, "LIVES WORTH LIVING" A FULLY ACCESSIBLE FILN THAT TELLS THE STORY OF THE DISABILITY RIGHTS MOVEMENT IN AMERICA. FALL CONFERENCE IN OCTOBER 2021 - THIS WAS A VIRTURAL EVENT THAT SHOWCASED BEST PRACTIVES AMONG EMPLOYERS RANKED AMONG BEST PLACES TO WORK FOR DISABILITY INCLUSION IN NC. HELD IN OCTOBER TO RECOGNIZE NATIONAL DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH.
