THE NLGA PROVIDES A MEDIUM FOR THE EXCHANGE OF VIEWS AND EXPRESSION ON ISSUES OF SHARED INTEREST, FOSTERS INTERSTATE COOPERATION, AND IMPROVES THE EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF STATES AND US TERRITORIES AND THE OFFICE OF LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR AND SECOND-IN-COMMAND.

NLGA CONDUCTS AN ANNUAL MEETING, USUALLY HOSTED BY A MEMBER, AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOWCASE UNIQUE STATE-BY-STATE RESOURCES, BEST PRACTICES, SHARED SOLUTIONS, AND COMMON EXPERIENCES WITH A GOAL TO INCREASE THE EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF GOVERNMENT. THE MEETING AVERAGES AN ECONOMIC IMPACT OF MORE THAN $400,000 FOR THE STATE WHICH HOSTS IT (2012). AT THIS MEETING, TWO SECOND-IN-COMMANDS ARE RECOGNIZED WITH AN AWARD FOR (1) LEADERSHIP IN THE ARTS AND (2) LEADERSHIP IN RECYCLING. NLGA MEMBERS PASSED BIPARTISAN POLICY STATEMENTS OF SHARED CONCERN.

THIS MEETING UNIQUELY OFFERS MEMBERS OPPORTUNITIES INTERNATIONALLY, PARTICULARLY AS RELATED TO COMMERCE. THE FOCUS OF THIS MEETING IS INTERNATIONAL AND INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS.
