THE PURPOSE OF THIS CORPORATION IS TO PROMOTE THE INTERESTS OF ITS MEMBERS, THE NEWSPAPERS OF KENTUCKY; TO EXPAND THEIR FIELD OF ENDEAVOR; TO MAINTAIN A HIGH CODE OF EITHICS AMONG ALL JOURNALISTS; TO ENHANCE THE USEFULNESS OF THE NEWSPAPER INDUSTRY AND TO PROMOTE AND MAINTAIN A SPIRIT OF FRATERNAL REGARD AMONG ITS MEMBERS; AND TO DO ANY AND ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO CARRY OUT THE PURPOSES OF THIS ASSOCIATION.

KENTUCKY PRESS ASSOCIATION PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES TO ENTER INTO A NEWS & ADVERTISING CONTESTS TO HELP EXPAND AND PROMOTE THE FUTURE OF KENTUCKY NEWSPAPERS. THESE CONTESTS ARE OPENED TO ALL KPA MEMBERS. THE NEWS CONTEST HAS UP TO 26 CATEGORIES THAT CAN BE JUDGED. FOR EXAMPLE, BEST COLUMN, BEST BREAKING NEWS STORY, BEST PHONE, BEST SPORTS PHOTO, ETC. THERE ARE 28 CATEGORIES FOR THE AD CONTEST THAT CAN BE JUDGED. FOR EXAMPLE BEST MEDICAL AD, BEST FINANCIAL AD, BEST USE OF COLOR, BEST AID SERIES, BEST DIGITAL AD SERIES, ETC.
KENTUCKY PRESS ASSOCIATION FREEDOM OF INFORMATION HOTLINE ALLOWS NEWSPAPERS TO HAVE ACCESS TO KPA'S GENERAL COUNSEL FIRM TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT OPEN MEETINGS, OPEN RECORDS, COURT CLOSURES, AND ADVERTISING LAWS. ADDITIONALLY KPA OFFERS LEGAL DEFENSE MONIES FOR ISSUES EFFECTING THE NEWSPAPER INDUSTRY. THIS PROGRAM DEFENDS A FUNDAMENTAL FREEDOM OF A FREE PRESS BENEFITING ALL CITIZENS.
KPA HAS A CONVENTION EACH YEAR IN JANUARY TO PROVIDE A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR NEWSPAPERS. THIS PROVIDES FORUMS FOR NETWORKING AND WORKSHOPS SCHEDULED FOR DIVISION INTEREST AND BREAKOUT SESSIONS FOR ADVERTISING, NEWS EDITORIAL AND AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT AND CIRCULATION.
