LEON COUNTY WORKS TO PRESERVE AND PROMOTE AGRICULTURE AND TO PROTECT THE AMERICAN FAMILY FARMING WAY OF LIFE.

IN FEBRUARY WE PARTICIPATED IN FOOD CHECK-OUT WEEK. THIS ANNUAL EVENT IS MEANT TO BRING AWARENESS TO THE PUBLIC OF THE ABUNDANCE OF FRESH AND NUTRIOUS FOOD AVAILABLE TO CONSUMERS AT AFFORDABLE PRICES.


LEON COUNTY FARM BUREAU ACTIVELY PARTICIPATED IN FAITC THIS YEAR. WE REACHED ABOUT 255 STUDENTS AND WORKED WITH TEACHERS TO INCORPORATE AGRICULTURE INTO THEIR LESSON PLANS. IN ADDITION TO FAITC, WE OFFERED TO ALL SCHOOLS, A MATCHING GRANT TO ANY LEON COUNTY TEACHER WHO TOOK PART IN THE AG IN THE CLASSROOM OR FARM BUREAU GRANTS.


LEON COUNTY FARM BUREAU SPONSORED SEVERAL ACTIVITIES TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO COLLEGE TO APPRECIATE AGRICULTURE'S IMPORTANCE IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE ENCOURAGE STUDENTS INVOLVEMENTS AT VARIOUS LEVELS SO THEY CAN GAIN A WELL ROUNDED UNDERSTANDING TO HOW AGRICULTURE PLAYS A BIG PART IN ALL AREAS OF SOCIETY. WE HELPED AN AREA MIDDLE SCHOOL WITH MATERIALS TO TEACH ABOUT THE LIFE CYCLE OF A CHICKEN. A GROUP OF 8TH GRADE AGRICULTURE STUDENTS WENT ON A TOUR OF ORCHARD POND ORGANIC FARM WHERE THEY LEARNED ABOUT FARMING AND BEEKEEPING. THE LOCAL UNIVERSITY COLLEGIATE FARM BUREAU PRESIDENT TO ATTEND OUR BOARD MEETINGS WHERE HE CAN LEARN ABOUT THE ISSUES IMPACTING AGRICULTURE.
