TO RESCUE, LOVE AND CARE FOR ORPHANS AND IMPOVERISHED CHILDREN IN HAITI, MEETING THEIR NEEDS PHYSICALLY, EMOTIONALLY, EDUCATIONALLY AND SPIRITUALLY SO THEY ARE EMPOWERED TO BECOME LEADERS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES AND NATION.

MEDICAL MALNUTRITION CENTER - IN 2021, OVER 5,672 PATIENTS WERE SERVED THROUGH A RANGE OF MEDICAL SERVICES, INCLUDING EMERGENCY CARE, INTAKE ASSESSMENT, DIAGNOSTIC BLOOD ANALYSIS, A RADIOLOGY LAB, OUTPATIENT TREATMENT, INPATIENT TREATMENT FOR SEVERE MALNUTRITION CASES, A PHARMACY AND MEDICAL TRANSPORT TO FROM THE CENTER. THE DENTAL CLINIC SERVED 1,269 PATIENTS INCLUDING FULL DENTAL HYGIENE, PREVENTATIVE RESTORATIVE SERVICES, AS WELL AS DISTRIBUTION OF DENTAL CARE SUPPLIES. HEALTH WELLNESS EDUCATION WAS PROVIDED TO EVERY PATIENT ON DISEASE PREVENTION AND WELLNESS MAINTENANCE. LIVES OF CRITICALLY ILL CHILDREN WERE SAVED WHO WERE NEAR DEATH FROM STARVATION THROUGH A MEDICALLY SUPERVISED, 3-MONTH INPATIENT NUTRITION AND MEDICAL CARE REGIMEN AND A MINIMUM 6-MONTH FOLLOW-UP PROGRAM TO ENSURE CONTINUED WELLNESS AND OTHER OUTPATIENT SERVICES TO MONITOR PATIENTS FOOD SECURITY. OUR MALNUTRITION MOUNTAIN OUTREACH PROGRAM TREATED 2,219 CHILDREN WHO LIVE IN RURAL AREAS WITHOUT ACCESS TO MEDICAL CARE.
CHILDRENS HOMES FOR ORPHANS - IN 2021, DANITAS CHILDREN PROVIDED FULL-TIME CARE FOR 57 ORPHANS THROUGH THE ORGANIZATIONS SIX CHILDRENS HOMES. THE HOMES ARE INDEPENDENTLY OPERATING HOUSEHOLDS WITH A HOUSE PARENT AND 12 TO 15 CHILDREN LIVING IN EACH HOME, THUS ALLOWING HOUSE PARENTS TO PROVIDE A NUTURING FAMILY-TYPE SETTING FOR THE CHILDREN. THROUGH THE CHILDRENS HOMES, THE CHILDREN RECEIVED SAFE AND COMFORTABLE SHELTER, NOURISHING FOOD MORE THAN THREE MEALS/DAY, CLOTHING INCLUDING SCHOOL UNIFORMS, AND EMOTIONAL AND SPIRITUAL CARE AND SUPPORT. OF THE SIX CHILDRENS HOMES, ONE IS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN. THREE TRAINED NURSES PROVIDE SPECIALIZED NURSING CARE TO EACH CHILD AND HOUSE MOMS PROVIDE CARE TO THESE CHILDREN, TREATING EACH ONE OF THEM WITH THE UTMOST DIGNITY, RESPECT AND LOVE. THE SPECIAL NEEDS HOUSE PROVIDED CARE TO 14 CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AND PHYSICAL DISABILITIES RANGING FROM MODERATE TO SEVERE. THESE CHILDREN ARE OFTEN DISCARDED BY THEIR FAMILIES AND SOCIETY AND WOULD HAVE NOWHERE ELSE TO LIVE.
EDUCATION - IN 2021, 350 STUDENTS WERE EDUCATED, PRESCHOOL THROUGH GRADE 13, INCLUDING 57 ORPHANS WHO LIVE IN THE CHILDRENS HOMES. THE REMAINDER ARE FROM THE NEARBY COMMUNITY OF OUANAMINTHE. THE SCHOOL HAS 17 CLASSROOMS AND EMPLOYS ALMOST 40 HAITIANS. IT PROVIDES SUPPLIES, BOOKS, UNIFORMS, AND MEDICAL CARE FOR EACH STUDENT, AS WELL AS A FEEDING PROGRAM THAT WAS STARTED IN 2002 WHEN CHILDREN WOULD COME TO SCHOOL HUNGRY, UNABLE TO FOCUS ON THEIR EDUCATION. THE CURRICULUM FOLLOWS HAITIS MINISTRY OF EDUCATION CURRICULUM WHILE INCORPORATING U.S. BASED EDUCATIONAL STRATEGIES FOR ANALYTICAL REASONING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING. STUDENTS LEARN CREOLE, SPANISH, FRENCH AND ENGLISH. THE SCHOOLS OFFICIAL SPORTS PROGRAM ALLOWS STUDENTS TO COMPETE IN SPORTS SUCH AS SOCCER AND VOLLEYBALL. SINCE 2014, 53 STUDENTS OUT OF 54 HAVE GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL AND RECEIVED FINANCIAL, LOGISTICAL, AND DIRECTIONAL SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE THROUGH THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. IN TOTAL, 3 WERE SPONSORED TO ATTEND COLLEGE IN HAITI, 12 IN THE U.S. AND 2 IN VOCATIONAL SCHOOL IN HAITI.
