LAKE ASHER, BEAR LAKE, LITTLE BEAR LAKE AND CUB LAKE ARE THE FOUR LAKES WHOSE RESIDENTS ARE REPRESENTED BY THE BEAR LAKE PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION. A NEWSLETTER IS WRITTEN AND PRODUCED BY THE BLPA AND THEN MAILED TO ALL THE LAKE RESIDENTS IN THE FOUR LAKES AREA. WE MAINTAIN AND UPDATE THE BLPA WEBSITE PERIODICALLY. THESE FORMS OF COMMUNICATION KEEP THE LAKE RESIDENTS CURRENT ON THE HEALTH AND QUALITY OF THE LAKE WATERS. THE BEAR LAKE PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION CONTINUES TO SUBMIT MONTHLY WATER SAMPLES TO THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA IFAS LAKE WATCH FOR ANALYSIS AND REPORTS OF LAKE WATER HEALTH FOR ALL FOUR LAKES. IN ADDITION, THE BLPA MAINTAINS A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SEMINOLE COUNTY COMMISSIONER FOR THE FOUR LAKES AREA. BLPA WORKS CLOSELY WITH SEMINOLE COUNTY AND SJRWMD ENGINEERS AND STAFF TO INSURE THE LAKE RESIDENTS' CONCERNS ARE CONVEYED TO EACH GOVERNING BODY. IN 2021 TO 2022 SEMINOLE COUNTY STORM WATER DIVISION INSTALLED A NEW AGE BAFFLE BOX SYSTEM TO CATCH AND REMOVE ORGANIC DEBRIS FROM STORM WATER RUNOFF INTO BEAR LAKE. THE BLPA AND THE AREA LAKE RESIDENTS WERE INCLUDED IN THE DESIGN DISCUSSIONS. A WHOLE LAKE SEDIMENTATION STUDY FOR BEAR LAKE WAS INITIATED BY BLPA AND THE FOUR LAKES RESIDENTS IN 2021. DR. HARVEY HARPER, OF ERD, CONDUCTED THE STUDY. THE STUDY COMPARED CURRENT FINDINGS TO AN EARLIER STUDY AND CONCLUDED THAT A WHOLE LAKE ALUM TREATMENT FOR BEAR LAKE WOULD BE BENEFICIAL TO THE LAKE AND THE LAKE WATER QUALITY. BLPA ORGANIZED AND COMPLETED THE ENTIRE PROJECT WITH THE COOPERATION OF THE FOUR LAKES RESIDENTS, DR. HARVEY HARPER, OF ERD, CHEMTRADE MATERIALS AND FLORIDA POWER EMPLOYEE ASSOCIATION IN JUNE 2022. BLPA CONTINUES TO MONITOR THE RESULTS OF THE PROJECT FOR THE FUTURE BENEFIT OF THE LAKES.
