THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE WAS HELD VIRTUALLY THIS YEAR. THE CONFERENCE BROUGHT TOGETHER MEMBERS AND OTHER PUBLIC FINANCE PROFESSIONALS TO IMPROVE AND DEVELOP TECHNICAL AND MANAGERIAL SKILLS. EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS WERE HELD ON THE MOST CURRENT GOVERNMENTAL FINANCE TOPICS. MEMBERS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO EARN CONTINUING EDUCATION HOURS FOR THEIR CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT LICENSES AND OTHER CERTIFICATIONS. THE VIRTUAL CONFERENCE HAD 960 PARTICIPANTS.
THE SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENTAL FINANCE WAS HELD VIRTUALLY THIS YEAR. THE SCHOOL ITSELF OFFERED EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS THAT WERE BROKEN INTO TWO SEGMENTS - BASIC/INTERMEDIATE SESSIONS AND INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED SESSIONS. A PARTICIPANT COULD REGISTER FOR EITHER OR BOTH SESSIONS. THE BASIC/INTERMEDIATE COURSES WERE TAILORED FOR ALL FINANCIAL SUPPORT STAFF AND FOR THE STAFF PERSON JUST BEGINNING A CAREER IN GOVERNMENTAL FINANCE. THESE PARTICIPANTS WERE EXPOSED TO AN IN-DEPTH STUDY AND ANALYSIS OF BASIC GOVERNMENTAL FINANCE CONCEPTS AND PRINCIPLES. THE INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED COURSES WERE TAILORED FOR SEASONED FINANCE PROFESSIONALS LOOKING FOR CURRENT INFORMATION ON COMPLEX ISSUES OF THE DAY. HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SCHOOL, IS THE CERTIFIED GOVERNMENT FINANCE OFFICER (CGFO) REVIEW COURSE AND TESTING. THE BEGINNER BOOT CAMP WAS ALSO HELD DURING THE SCHOOL. THE BEGINNER COURSE IS AN INTENSE HANDS-ON, WORKSHOP THAT WILL INTRODUCE THE VERY BASICS OF ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL REPORTING FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS. CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION CREDIT FOR CPAS AND CGFOS WAS ALSO AVAILABLE FOR ATTENDEES OF THE SCHOOL OR ANY OF THE EDUCATIONAL EVENTS DURING THE SCHOOL. IN ADDITION TO THE VARIETY OF EDUCATIONAL TOPICS COVERED, THE SCHOOL PROVIDED SEVERAL NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES. A TOTAL OF 348 REGISTRANTS PARTICIPATED IN THE VIRTUAL SCHOOL.
THE CERTIFIED GOVERNMENT FINANCE OFFICER (CGFO) PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE A LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND PROFESSIONALISM IN THE FIELD OF GOVERNMENT FINANCE. THE PROGRAM IS ALSO INTENDED TO ENCOURAGE DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE FOR PRACTICING GOVERNMENTAL FINANCE OFFICERS. FOR PURPOSES OF THE CGFO PROGRAM, A FINANCE OFFICER IS ANY INDIVIDUAL OCCUPYING A PROFESSIONAL LEVEL POSITION THAT INCLUDES OVERSIGHT AND/OR SUPERVISION OF ONE OR MORE FINANCIAL FUNCTIONS IN A GOVERNMENT ENTITY.A REVIEW COURSE FOR THE CGFO EXAMINATION AND THE EXAM WAS HELD IN THE FALL AND SPRING. 106 REGISTRANTS PARTICIPATED IN THE REVIEW COURSE AND 112 INDIVIDUALS COMPLETED THE EXAM. 13 INDIVIDUALS SUCCESSFULLY PASSED THE EXAM AND EARNED THEIR CGFO CERTIFICATION.
