THE MISSION OF THE UNITED WAY OF THE FLORIDA KEYS IS TO BE THE LEADER IN COMMUNITY CARING. ALL FUNDS RAISED IN THE KEYS STAYS IN THE KEYS UNITED WAY OF THE FLORIDA KEYS (UWFK) HELPS BUILD AND SUPPORT STRONG WORKING FAMILIES BY PROVIDING FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO LOCAL NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROVIDE CRITICAL SERVICES TO OUR NEIGHBORS IN NEED FROM FOOD PANTRIES TO SHELTERS. UWFK ENGAGES IN ADVOCACY WITH OTHER NON-PROFITS TO THAT END. THE COMMUNITY IMPACTS FOCUS AREAS, AROUND WHICH OUR WORK AND FUNDING TO LOCAL NON-PROFITS ARE ORIENTED, ARE 1) ACCESS TO QUALITY, NUTRITIOUS FOOD AND 2) SUPPORT FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT.

SEE SCHEDULE I OF THE 2016 990. UNITED WAY OF THE FLORIDA KEYS (UWFK) PROVIDED SUPPORT TO 13 NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA. THE AMOUNTS ALLOCATED TO THESE AGENCIES RANGED FROM $5,000 TO $30,000. SERVICES PROVIDED BY THESE AGENCIES INCLUDED SERVICES FOR CHILDREN IN THE AREAS OF EDUCATION AND RECREATION, SUPPORT FOR FOOD PROGRAMS SUCH AS PANTRIES, FOOD SUPPORT FOR PREGNANT MOTHERS AND CHILDREN UNDER THREE, AND A BACKPACK PROGRAM TO PROVIDE FOOD FOR INSECURE CHILDREN. THE UWFK HAS A UNIQUE ROLE IN OUR COMMUNITY AS BOTH A FUNDER OF CRITICAL SERVICES THAT IS SUPPORTED THE LOCAL COMMUNITY PRIMARILY THROUGH EMPLOYEE PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS AND ALSO AS THE CONVENER OF THE COUNTY-WIDE DISCUSSION COORDINATING OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO WORK TOGETHER TO ADDRESS SYSTEMIC NEEDS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY IMPACT WORK. THE WORK ALSO ORGANIZES A COUNTY-WIDE SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE WITH MULTIPLE RETAILERS AND PARTNER BUSINESSES TO COLLECT SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR LOCAL SCHOOL KIDS IN NEED OF SUPPLIES. ALSO MADE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS AIDING LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES KEYSWIDE TO RECOVER REFRIGERATED DONATED FOOD FROM GROCERY STORES. IN ADDITION, WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON SOLUTIONS COUNTY-WIDE FOR AFFORDABLE CHILDCARE FOR WORKING FAMILIES.
