COASTAL CENTER OPERATIONS - FLORIDA OCEANOGRAPHIC SOCIETY'S MISSION IS TO INSPIRE ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP OF FLORIDA'S COASTAL ECOSYSTEMS THROUGH EDUCATION, RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY, SITUATED ON 57-ACRES, THE COASTAL CENTER WELCOMES OVER 60,000 GUESTS ANNUALLY AND IS HOME TO OVER 300 ANIMALS INCLUDING 30+ SPECIES OF FISH, STINGRAYS, NURSE SHARKS, AND 4 SEA TURTLES. THE NEW 26,000 SQUARE FOOT OCEAN ECOCENTER INCLUDES 4 EDUCATIONAL INTERACTIVE EXHIBIT GALLERIES, AQUARIUMS AND AN EXPLORATION LAB CLASSROOM FOR DAILY AND SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS.


RESEARCH & ADVOCACY - RESERACH AND ADVOCACY PROGRAMS RESTORE LOCAL HABITATS IN THE ST LUCIE ESTUARY AND INDIAN RIVER LAGOON BY ESTABLISHING OYSTER REEFS, SEAGRASS MEADOWS, AND NATURAL LIVING SHORELINES.


EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS - EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS INCLUDES COASTAL CENTER PROGRAMMING, AS WELL AS SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS, GROUP VISITS, SUMMER CAMPS, AND EDUCATION OUTREACH IN THE COMMUNITY.
