SUMTER COUNTY FARM BUREAU HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN THE FORMATION OF THE SUMTER COUNTY AGRICULTURAL ALLIANCE WHOSE MISSION IS TO BE AN ADVOCATE FOR ALL AGRICULTURE IN SUMTER COUNTY BY EDUCATING OUR CITIZENS ABOUT THE ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS SUMTER COUNTY AGRICULTURE PROVIDES. IT IS OUR DESIRE TO COORDINATE ACTIVITIES BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT AGRICULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS WITHIN THE COUNTY THEREBY PROVIDING A GREATER 'VOICE OF AGRICULTURE' IN SUMTER COUNTY.
YOUTH EDUCATION AND PARTICIPATION IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED IN OUR COUNTY ON MANY DIFFERENT LEVELS. SEVERAL MEMBERS SERVE AS TEACHERS AND LEADERS FOR OUR 4H AND FFA STUDENTS. AT THE COUNTY FAIR, VOLUNTEERS PUT TOGETHER A SHOWMANSHIP AND HUSBANDRY CLINIC. THESE CLINICS HELP STUDENTS LEARN VALUABLE LIFE LESSONS ON THE HUMANE TREATMENT OF LIVESTOCK. THROUGH PRIZE ADDITIONS THE FARM BUREAU STRESSES THE BUSINESS ASPECT OF AGRICULTURE.
FARM CITY WEEK IS CELEBRATED THE WEEK LEADING UP TO THANKSGIVING. IT IS A TIME TO HIGHLIGHT THE PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN RURAL AND URBAN COMMUNITIES. A SHORT VIDEO WAS CREATED AND BROUGHT VIEWER ON A VIRTUAL TOUR THROUGH LOCAL FARMS. IT EXPLAINED HOW DIVERSE AGRICULTURE IS IN SUMTER COUNTY AND THE ECONOMIC IMPACT IMPACT IT HAS IN OUR COMMUNITIES.
