Part 3 - Line 4a
WE PARTICIPATED IN FARM CITY WEEK,A NATIONAL EVENT TO BRING AWARENESS TO THE PUBLIC ON THE IMPORTANCE OF AGRICULTURE. LEADING UP TO THE EVENT, OUR WOMEN'S COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS SPONSORED AN ESSAY CONTEST FOR THE LOCAL 5TH GRADE STUDENTS. STUDENTS WERE ASKED TO WRITE ABOUT 'WHY AGRICULTURE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT INDUSTRY IN OUR NATION?' THIS CONTEST ALLOWS US TO BRING AWARENESS TO YOUNG PEOPLE OF WHERE FOOD COMES FROM AND THE IMPORTANCE OF FARMERS.
MADISON COUNTY FARM BUREAU SUPPORTS YOUTH INVOLVED IN AGRICULTURAL PROGRAMS SUCH AS 4-H AND FFA. WE SPONSOR THE LIVESTOCK SHOW WHERE STUDENTS PRESENT THEIR PROJECTS. THIS EVENT HELPS STUDENTS WITH IMPORTANT SKILLS SUCH AS TEAMWORK, PRESENTATION, LEADERSHIP AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT. IT IS IMPORTANT TO MENTOR THESE YOUTH TO BECOME AGRICULTURAL LEADERS IN OUR COMMUNITIES.
FOR SEVERAL YEARS WE HAVE PARTNERED WITH THE IFAS EXTENSION AND 4-H OFFICE AND OTHER AGENCIES TO PUT ON THE 3RD GRADE ECOLOGY DAY. STUDENTS ARE TAUGHT ABOUT PLANTS AND WHAT IS NEEDED FOR THE PLANTS TO FLOURISH. THE FLORIDA WILDLIFE COMMISSION TALKED ABOUT THEIR JOBS AND WHAT THEY DO TO HELP OUR LOCAL ENVIRONMENT. STUDENTS LEARNED ABOUT CONTROL BURNS AND WHY IT IS IMPORTANT FOR OUR FORESTS. MADISON COUNTY FARM BUREAU HELPED THE STUDENTS UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY, SPECIFICALLY ALL THE CORN WE GROW IN MADISON COUNTY AND ITS USES.
