TO REDUCE HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS BY PROVIDNG FOOD AND EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE IN DULUTH GEORGIA.

THE DULUTH CO-OP FED 3,174 FAMILIES (12,363 INDIVIDUALS) DURING 2021 AND CONTINUES TO SERVE TWICE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAN BEFORE THE PANDEMIC. DUE TO THE GENEROSITY OF OUR SURROUDING COMMUNITY, THE ESTIMATED VALUE OF FOOD DISTRIBUTED WAS 357,486. IN TOTAL, 210,286 POUNDS WAS DISTRIBUTED IN 2021. SIGNIFICANT UPGRADES IN TECHNOLOGY WERE REQUIRED TO MEET THE DEMANDS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. CLIENTS WERE ABLE TO MAKE APPOINTMENTS ONLINE AT OUR WEBSITE. WE USED IPADS IN THE PARKING LOT TO SPEED THE PROCESS OF GETTING FOOD INTO CAR TRUNKS AND ENSURE SOCIAL DISTANCING. DUE TO HIGH DEMAND, CLIENTS WERE ABLE TO RECEIVE FOOD TWICE A MONTH RATHER THAN ONLY ONCE A MONTH. AT LEAST 12 VOLUNTEERS PER DAY WERE BUSY ANSWERING PHONES AND COUNSELING CLIENTS THROUGH CRISIS, WELCOMING CLIENTS NEEDING FOOD, SORTING AND PACKING FOOD, PICKING UP CONTRIBUTIONS FROM LOCAL STORES WE PARTNER WITH, INITIATING FOOD DRIVES IN NEIGHBORHOODS, AS WELL AS MANY MORE THINGS NEEDED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY.
IN ORDER TO KEEP FAMILIES IN THEIR HOMES, THE CO-OP DISTRIBUTED 75,586 IN FINANCIAL AID. ASSISTANCE WENT TO 185 FAMILIES FOR RENT/EMERGENCY LODGING AND 192 FAMILIES FOR UTILITY PAYMENTS. WE PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO 1) PEOPLE WHO ARE DISABLED 2) SENIORS OVER AGE 60 AND 3)LEGAL GUARDIANS OF CHILDREN IN SECONDARY SCHOOL OR BELOW. IN 2021, WE ALSO PROVIDED ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS IMPACTED BY COVID AND GAVE OUT GIFT CARDS TO 242 FAMILIES TOTALING 5,970. ALL CLIENTS HAVE ACCESS TO A JOB BOARD AND ONE ON ONE BUDGETING ASSISTANCE AS WELL AS REFERRALS TO OTHER RESOURCES IN THE AREA.
THE CO-OP STRIVES TO BUILD STRONG FAMILIES ONE CHILD AT A TIME. IN 2021 THE CO-OP PROVIDED 251 BOOKBAGS, 212 HOLIDAY MEALS, 362 CHRISTMAS GIFTS, 260 EASTER BASKETS, AND TRANSPORTATION FOR 46 FAMILIES.
