THE MISSION OF THE ATLANTA-FULTON PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION IS TO WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE FULTON COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM TO SECURE THE LIBRARY SYSTEMS FUTURE AS AN INDISPENSABLE COMMUNITY RESOURCE THROUGH ADVOCACY, RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS AND GENERATING PUBLIC AND PRIVATE FUNDING.

DURING 2021 THE RECOMMENDATIONS COMING FROM THE GROWTH COMMITTEE WERE ACTED UPON. THE GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE BEGAN TO MEET IN EARNEST AND BEGAN RECRUITING NEW BOARD MEMBERS. THESE NEW BOARD MEMBERS ARE EXPANDING OUR COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO EXPANDED ITS FUNDRAISING IN 2021 BY USING A GRANT WRITER TO WRITE GRANTS TO LOCAL FOUNDATIONS. INDIVIDUAL FUNDRAISING ALSO EXPANDED BY USING THE SERVICES OF A NATIONAL DIRECT-MAIL COMPANY, CARL BLOOM INC. THIS EXPANDED FUNDRAISING ALLOWED THE FOUNDATION TO IMPLEMENT TWO NEW PROGRAMS AT THE LIBRARY: ONE BOOK ONE READ AND THE CHILDRENS BOOK FESTIVAL. BOTH PROGRAMS WERE HUGE SUCCESSES AND WILL CONTINUE EVERY YEAR NOW.
THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM WAS HELD VIRTUALLY FROM JUNE 1, 2021 TO AUGUST 1, 2021, WITH A TOTAL PARTICIPATION OF 3,226 CHILDREN, TEENS, AND ADULTS. A TOTAL OF 66,903 BOOKS WERE READ AND 6,968 CHILDREN, TEENS, AND ADULTS ATTENDED VIRTUAL PROGRAMS THAT SUMMER, INCLUDING VIRTUAL CRAFT PROGRAMS, STORYTIMES, COOKING PROGRAMS, AND BOOK CLUBS. IT IS A POPULAR CHOICE FOR READERS OF ALL LEVELS.
