NURTURING PARENTS, PARENTING CLASSES FOR PARENTS AND CHILDREN. PARTICIPANTS MAY BE VOLUNTARY OR MANDIATED BY COURTS. NURSING PARENTS IS A WEEK COURSE OFFERS A PROVEN, EFFECTIVE, POSITIVE APPROACH TO PARENTING. STEPUP FATHER GROUP IS A 13 WEEK COURSE GIVING DADS OPPORTUNITY TO STRENGTHEN PARENTING SKILLS AND REALIZE IMPORTANCE THE FATHER ROLE IS TO HEALTHY GROWTH AND WELL-BEING OF CHILDREN. GRAND FAMILIES IS A 12 WEEK COURSE FOR RELATIVE CAREGIVERS OF CHILDREN OFFERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO FORM A SUPPORT NETWORK AND TO GAIN SKILLS NECESSARY TO "PARENT" AGAIN.
FIRST STEPS OFFERS PARENTS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR AN INFORMATIONAL VISIT TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER THE BIRTH OF A BABY. THE VISIT PROVIDES INFORMATION ON POST-PARTUM DEPRESSION, SIDS, SHAKEN BABY SYNDROME AS WELL AS INFORMATION ON DEVELOPMENT, FEEDING AND LINKAGE TO RESOURCES IN THE COMMUNITY.
PARENTS AS TEACHERS PROVIDE VOLUNTARY HOME VISITATION PROGRAM FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN BEGINNING AGE 0-3. VISITS IN THE HOME OFFER EARLY CHILDHOOD PARENT EDUCATION AND SUPPORT PROVIDE PARENTS WITH ACTIVITIES AND SUPPORT THAT WILL ENHANCE PARENT CHILD BONDING, INFORMATION TO CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND REFERRAL TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES. HOME VISITORS PROVIDE DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENS FOR EARLY DETECTION OF DELAYS. MONTHLY GROUP MEETINGS ARE OFFERED TO PROVIDE EDUCATION AND FACILITATE PEER SUPPORT.
