EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING - VRS'S JOB READINESS PROGRAM WORKS WITH INDIVIDUALS SUFFERING FROM A VISUAL IMPAIRMENT WHO ARE ENTERING THE WORLD OF WORK FOR THE FIRST TIME OR THOSE CONSIDERING HOW TO RE-ENTER THE WORKPLACE AFTER SUFFERING A VISUAL IMPAIRMENT. VRS WORKS WITH THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION SERVICES IN INDENTIFYING EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES THEN PROVIDING VARIOUS TOOLS AND STRATEGIES NEEDED FOR A JOB THAT'S BEEN IDENTIFIED BY OR FOR THE PERSON WITH LOW VISION AND/OR BLINDNESS. LASTLY, VRS EMPLOYS INDIVIDUALS WORKING IN A FEDERAL AGENCY WHO ARE PROVIDING CUSTOMER SERVICE, CONTRACT REVIEWS AND DATA ENTRY SERVICES.
PERSONAL AND SOCIAL ADUSTMENT - PROVIDES ADAPTIVE SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES TO HELP INDIVIDUALS CARRY OUT THEIR DAILY LIVING ACTIVITIES. TEACHERS HELP IDENTIFY THE PERSON'S NEEDS, ASSIST IN SETTING PROGRAM GOALS, AND PRIVIDE SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION IN AREAS OF COMMUNICATION (READING AND WRITING), PERSONAL CARE, HOME MANAGEMENT, KITCHEN SAFETY, COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY, JOB SKILLS AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES.
COMPUTER TRAINING - THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES ACCESS TECHNOLOGY TRAINING WHICH ALLOWS THOSE WITH VISION LOSS TO BE PRODUCTIVE AND EFFICIENT BY USING THE MOST CURRENT TECHNOLOGIES. THIS MAY INCLUDE SCREEN READING SOFTWARE, SCREEN MAGNIFICATION SOFTWARE, DOWNLOADABLE APPLICATIONS, HAND HELD DEVICES SUCH AS IPADS, TABLETS, SMARTPHONES AS WELL AS MANY OTHER ELECTRONICS THAT INCLUDE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) TECHNOLOGY. THROUGH TRAINING CLIENTS LEARN TO USE THE VOICE OVER COMMANDS AND MANY OTHER ACCESSIBILITY FEATURES OF THE DEVICES AND SOFTWARE AVAILABLE. THE TRAINING IS PROVIDED EITHER ON A 1 TO 1 BASIS OR IN SMALL GROUP SETTING AT THE AGENCY OR IN SATELLITE LOCATIONS WITHIN THE 34 COUNTY SERVICE AREA. THE GOAL IS TO INCORPORATE TECHNOLOGY INTO DAILY LIVING AND WORK ACTIVITIES.
