BAPTIST MEMORIAL HEALTH CARE CORPORATION IS THE SOLE MEMBER OF A NUMBER OF HOSPITALS, MINOR MEDICAL CENTERS, HOME CARE AND HOSPICE SERVICES, AND PHYSICIAN SERVICES IN WEST TENNESSEE, NORTH AND CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI, AND EAST ARKANSAS. IN ADDITION, BAPTIST MEMORIAL HEALTH CARE CORPORATION SUPPLIES MANAGEMENT, CONSULTING, AND SUPPORT SERVICES TO THOSE ENTITIES THROUGH ITS CORPORATE STAFF. MANAGEMENT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO THESE RELATED ORGANIZATIONS WHICH PROVIDE QUALITY HEALTH CARE REGARDLESS OF RACE, CREED, SEX, NATIONAL ORIGIN, HANDICAP, OR AGE. THE SUPPORT INCLUDES LEGAL, FINANCIAL, QUALITY, AND PERSONNEL SERVICES. BY PROVIDING THESE SERVICES ON A CENTRALIZED AND COORDINATED BASIS, THE AFFILIATED ORGANIZATIONS ARE RUN EFFICIENTLY AND EFFECTIVELY, THE QUALITY OF SERVICE IS HIGHER AND MORE COST EFFECTIVE, AND THE DATA GENERATED IS MORE MEANINGFUL. THESE EFFICIENCIES GREATLY CONTRIBUTE TO THE EXEMPT PURPOSE OF THE RELATED ORGANIZATIONS, ALLOWING THEM TO ACCOMPLISH THEIR CHARITABLE PURPOSES, AND BETTER UTILIZE THEIR RESOURCES WHERE THEY ARE NEEDED MOST, PROVIDING BETTER CARE FOR THE COMMUNITY.IN JULY 2012, BAPTIST MEMORIAL HEALTH CARE CORPORATION SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH EPIC, A SOFTWARE VENDOR BASED OUT OF VERONA, WISCONSIN, PAVING THE WAY FOR BAPTIST MEMORIAL HEALTH CARE CORPORATION'S TRANSITION TO A NEW ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD (EHR). THE PROJECT INVOLVES ALL 19 BAPTIST-AFFILIATED HOSPITALS ALONG WITH ITS CLINICS AND FINANCIAL SYSTEMS. ALL 13,000-PLUS BAPTIST EMPLOYEES AND MORE THAN 3,000 AFFILIATED PHYSICIANS WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE PROJECT.BAPTIST MEMORIAL HEALTH CARE CORPORATION CHOSE EPIC AFTER CONDUCTING A GREAT DEAL OF RESEARCH AND INVOLVING COLLEAGUES IN NUMEROUS DEMONSTRATIONS, WHICH MORE THAN 2,500 ATTENDED. BAPTIST MEMORIAL HEALTH CARE CORPORATION TOOK COLLEAGUES' FEEDBACK INTO DEEP CONSIDERATION BEFORE MAKING A DECISION. BAPTIST MEMORIAL HEALTH CARE CORPORATION COLLEAGUES PLAYED A ROLE IN BRANDING THE EPIC-POWERED SOFTWARE AS "BAPTIST ONECARE"."BAPTIST ONECARE CREATES A SINGLE PATIENT RECORD THAT BOTH CAREGIVERS AND PATIENTS ARE ABLE TO ACCESS. THE EHR AIMS TO MAXIMIZE EFFICIENCY BY REDUCING THE NEED FOR DUPLICATE TESTS AND PATIENTS HAVING TO GIVE THE SAME INFORMATION TO MULTIPLE CAREGIVERS. PATIENT PRIVACY IS PROTECTED THE SAME WAY IT IS WITH A WRITTEN RECORD.THE BIGGEST CONVENIENCE FOR PATIENTS WITHIN THE SYSTEM IS CALLED MYCHART, A FREE APPLICATION ACCESSIBLE VIA SMARTPHONE OR COMPUTER THAT ALLOWS PATIENTS TO SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS, REFILL PRESCRIPTIONS, DIRECT MESSAGE THEIR CARE PROVIDERS WITH THE OPTION OF INCLUDING PHOTOS, ACCESS LAB RESULTS, AND MUCH MORE. BAPTIST MEMORIAL HEALTH CARE CORPORATION AND VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER BEGAN AN ACADEMIC AFFILIATION IN OCTOBER 2012. THIS ACADEMIC AFFILIATION PROVIDES FOR NEW CLINICAL RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE DESIGNED TO ENHANCE CANCER PROGRAMS.THE AFFILIATION ESTABLISHES A FRAMEWORK FOR COLLABORATIVE ONCOLOGY INITIATIVES BETWEEN BAPTIST CANCER CENTER AND VANDERBILT-INGRAM CANCER CENTER. BAPTIST CANCER CENTER PATIENTS HAVE INCREASED ACCESS TO VANDERBILT-INGRAM CANCER CENTER CLINICAL RESEARCH TRIALS AND GENETIC DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS.
