KEEP THE ARTS AT THE HEART OF OUR COMMUNITY. AAAC FULFILLS ITS MISSION BY SUPPORTING ARTS ORGANIZATIONS AND ARTISTS IN BUNCOMBE COUNTY THROUGH ADVOCACY, PUBLIC ART, AND SERVICES FOR CREATIVES.

TOTAL PROGRAM EXPENSES OF $261,684 WERE INCURRED IN ACTIVITIES DESCRIBED BELOW IN 4A, 4B AND 4C, AS WELL AS OTHER PROGRAM ACTIVITIES: ADVOCACY- IN ORDER TO BETTER SERVE THE MANY DIVERSE ARTS PROFESSIONALS AND BUSINESSES IN BUNCOMBE COUNTY, THE ASHEVILLE AREA ARTS COUNCIL FORMED THE ARTS COALITION IN 2021 TO DRIVE POLICY IN KEY FOCUS AREAS. THROUGH A SERIES OF TEN COMMITTEES THE COALITION SETS A YEARLY POLICY AGENDA, AND WORKS TOWARDS ADDRESSING THESE OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES THROUGH ADVOCACY INITIATIVES. WITH THE COALITION'S SUPPORT, THE ARTS COUNCIL HOSTED THE CREATIVE SECTOR SUMMIT, PUBLISHED THE BUNCOMBE COUNTY CREATIVE EARNINGS REPORT, AND SUCCESSFULLY ADVOCATED FOR A $130K ARTS & CULTURE BLOCK GRANT FROM BUNCOMBE COUNTY GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL FUNDING SUPPORT TO ARTS ORGANIZATIONS IN FY23.
PUBLIC ART- THE ARTS COUNCIL WAS AWARDED FUNDING FROM DOGWOOD HEALTH TRUST TO LEAD A COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROCESS AND EXHIBITION FOR THE 2020 AVL PROTEST MURALS. THIS INCLUDED A VIRTUAL EXHIBITION OF MORE THAN 50 STOREFRONT MURALS, AN AUCTION, AND SPEAKER SERIES. PROGRAMMING WAS CONDUCTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. ASSOCIATION OF ASHEVILLE AND BUNCOMBE COUNTY. THE ARTS COUNCIL ALSO SUPPORTED OTHER PUBLIC ART PROJECTS INCLUDING THE AFRICAN AMERICAN HERITAGE TRAIL PROJECT, AND THE PACK SQUARE PLAZA VISIONING INITIATIVE.
SERVICE FOR CREATIVES- THE ASHEVILLE AREA ARTS COUNCIL AWARDED 44 GRANTS AND DISTRIBUTED $91,040 THROUGH TWO GRANT PROGRAMS IN 2021-2022. THE GRASSROOTS ARTS PROGRAM GRANT PROVIDES OPERATING AND PROGRAMMATIC SUPPORT FOR NONPROFIT ARTS ORGANIZATIONS AND WAS FUNDED BY THE NORTH CAROLINA ARTS COUNCIL THROUGH A STATE BUDGET ALLOCATION, AND $50,000 IN BUNCOMBE COUNTY AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN FUNDING. THE ARTS BUILD COMMUNITY GRANT SUPPORTS ARTS-BASED COMMUNITY PROJECTS. IT WAS FUNDED THROUGH A BUNCOMBE COUNTY STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP GRANT AND PRIVATE DONATIONS. THE ARTS COUNCIL ALSO SUPPORTED 9 ARTIST RESIDENCIES FOR BUNCOMBE COUNTY SCHOOLS THROUGH THE TEACHING ARTISTS PRESENTING IN ASHEVILLE AREA SCHOOLS (TAPAAS) PROGRAM, SERVING OVER 450 STUDENTS.
