WHOLESPIRE HAS AN AGREEMENT WITH THE SC DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL DIVISION OF DIABETES AND CHRONIC DISEASE PREVENTION SUPPORTING DIABETES PREVENTION EFFORTS OUTLINED IN THE STATE HEALTH IMPROVEMENT PLAN. WHOLESPIRE ACTS AS A FISCAL AGENT AND PROVIDES ASSISTANCE WITH PROMOTION OF ACTIVITIES TO SUPPORT DIABETES PREVENTION INCLUDING SERVING ON THE DIABETES ACTION COUNCIL, ACTING AS A FISCAL AGENT FOR THE COUNCIL, AND PROVIDING STAFFING SUPPORT FOR THE COUNCIL.
TEAMING UP FOR HEALTH OUTCOMES, A FOUR-YEAR COALITION INITIATIVE, WAS LAUNCHED IN 2021 WITH SUPPORT FROM THE BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF SC FOUNDATION, AN INDEPENDENT LICENSEE OF THE BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD ASSOCIATION. THE INITIATIVE IS A JOINT EFFORT WITH THE SC OFFICE OF RURAL HEALTH TO HELP URBAN AND RURAL COALITIONS IMPROVE POPULATION HEALTH BY PROVIDING FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES THAT FOCUS ON TRAINING, COACHING, CAPACITY BUILDING, AND HEALTHY EATING ACTIVE LOVING IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS.
THE HEALTHY YOUNG PEOPLE EMPOWERMENT (HYPE) PROJECT, A YOUTH CURRICULUM ENGAGING YOUTH IN CIVIC ACTION PROJECTS CREATING HEALTHY COMMUNITIES AND FUTURE LEADERS, WAS IMPLEMENTED THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE 7TH DISTRICT AME CHURCH. 306 YOUTH FROM 22 CHURCHES IN 11 COUNTIES ACROSS THE STATE WERE INVOLVED IN HEALTHY EATING ACTIVE LIVING CIVIC ACTION PROJECTS. SUPPORT FOR THE PROJECTS CAME FROM AN AGREEMENT WITH DHEC TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY HEALTH IMPROVEMENT AND INJURY AND VIOLENCE PREVENTION.
WHOLESPIRE WORKED TOWARDS SYSTEMIC CHANGES ADDRESSING POVERTY AND INCLUDING THE COMMUNITIES THAT HAVE HISTORICALLY BEEN NEGLECTED IN POLICY MAKING PROCESSES. THE FOCUS IN 2021 WAS ENGAGING AND TRAINING ADVOCATES WITH LIVED EXPERIENCES. HEALTHY BLUE MARKETING SPONSORSHIP OF THE WHOLESPIRE WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA. HEALTHY PEOPLE HEALTHY CAROLINAS AGREEMENT TO PROVIDE ADVOCACY TRAINING TO THEIR COALITIONS WITH FOLLOW UP TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE. USC DISABILITIES LAST CYCLE OF GRANT SUPPORTING WORK TO PROMOTE AND EDUCATE CHAPTERS ABOUT DISABILITY INCLUSION IN ADVOCACY AND COMMUNITY WORK. TWO YEAR INITIATIVE LAUNCHED TO ALIGN STATE AND LOCAL LEVEL WORK TO NATIONAL HEALTH PRIORITIES WHILE ADDRESSING HEALTH INEQUITIES EXASPERATED BY COVID-19.
