PALMETTO GIRLS STATE IS A ONE-WEEK LEADERSHIP AND CITIZENSHIP TRANING PROGRAM, CREATED TO EDUCATE OUTSTANDING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ABOUT STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND CITIZENSHIP. GIRLS ATTENDING PALMETTO GIRLS STATE EXPERIENCE GOVERNMENTAL PROCEDURE BY SIMULATING POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS, ELECTIONS, ADN THE POLICAL PROCESS. THEY ALSO LEARN ABOUT THE PRINCIPLES OF CITIZENSHIP ADN PUBLIC SERVICE FROM GUEST SPEAKERS, EXPERT PANELS, AND STAFF MEMBERS.


SUPPORT OF NATIONAL ORGANIZATION VIA REMITTANCE OF NATIONAL MEMBERSHIP DUES.


VETERANS AFFAIRS AND REHABILITATION SERVICES INCLUDE SUPPORT AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES THROUGH THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONS: (1) POPPY PROGRAMS - THIS FUNCTION RAISES FUNDS THROUGH THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE SYMBOLIC RED POPPIES TO SUPPORT ACTIVE-DUTY MILITARY, VETERANS, AND THEIR FAMILIES. (2) SPECIAL REHABILITATION FUND - THIS FUND IS A VEHICLE BY WHICH ALL SOUTH CAROLINA ALA UNITS DONATE ANNUALLY TO THE AMERICAN LEGION TO BENEFIT VETERANS. (3) CHRISTMAS GIFT SHOPS - THESE SHOPS ARE LOCAED AT THE VA HOSPITALS WHERE GIFTS ARE PURCHASED AND THEN DISTRIBUTED TO VA PATIENTS.


CONFERENCES AND CONVENTIONS - THE ASSOCIATION HOLDS AN ANNUAL CONVENTIONS IN THE SPRING AND THE FALL. OUR ASSOCIATION LEADERS ALSO ATTEND AN ANNUAL NATIONAL CONVENTIONS. THE NATIONAL CONVENTIONS ARE THE LEGISLATIVE BODY OF THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILARY. THE CONVENTION IS HELD FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING OFFICER FOR THE ENSUING YEAR, AMENDING THE CONSTITUTION AND THE BYLAWS, RECEIVING REPORTS OF THE OFFICERS AND COMMITTEES, AND FOR THE TRANSACTION OF SUCH OTHER BUSINESS AS IS NECESSARY.
