THE MISSION OF THE GREENSBORO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, INC. IS TO ENRICH THE CULTURAL LIFE OF GREENSBORO, NC AND SURROUNDING AREAS THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT, PRODUCTION, AND PROMOTION OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY MUSIC AND MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS.

THE GREENSBORO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PRESENTS 6 CLASSICAL CONCERTS WITH OUTSTANDING, WORLD-RENOWNED GUEST ARTISTS, 6 POPS CONCERTS WHICH FEATURE POPULAR GROUPS AND SOLOISTS, A COMMUNITY GOSPEL CONCERT WITH A COMMUNITY CHOIR AND SPECIAL ARTISTS, (RECENTLY STING) AT THE NEW STEVEN TANGER CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS IN DOWNTOWN GREENSBORO. OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDE 5 CHAMBER CONCERTS AT UNCG AND ANNUAL HOLIDAY CONCERTS, FREE TO THE COMMUNITY, WHICH SERVE AS A BENEFIT CONCERT FOR THE SALVATION ARMY AT THE GREENSBORO COLISEUM AND WILLIAMS HIGH SCHOOL IN BURLINGTON.
THE GSO BOASTS ONE OF THE LARGEST SUITES OF MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS AMONG SOUTHEASTERN ORCHESTRAS. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS FOLLOW: ORKIDSTRA INCLUDES MUSIC CLASSES AND CHAMBER CONCERTS FOR 4-YEAR-OLDS IN HEAD START ACROSS FOUR COUNTIES; THE LILLIAN RAUCH BEGINNING STRINGS PROGRAM, IN COLLABORATION WITH UNCG, PROVIDES INSTRUMENTS AND INSTRUCTION FREE OF CHARGE TO STUDENTS AT PECK AND CONE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS; THE GREENSBORO SYMPHONY YOUTH ORCHESTRA, COMPRISED OF THREE ENSEMBLES- YOUTH ORCHESTRA, YOUTH PHILHARMONIC, AND YOUTH STRINGS, PROVIDES A PROFESSIONALLY DIRECTED ENVIRONMENT FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS TO STUDY, PREPARE, AND PERFORM MUSIC; GSO SMALL ENSEMBLES GIVE IN-SCHOOL PERFORMANCES FOR EVERY GUILFORD COUNTY SCHOOLS (GCS) 3RD, 4TH, AND 5TH GRADER AND FULL ORCHESTRAL CONCERTS FOR ALL GCS 3RD, 4TH, AND 7TH GRADERS AT THE TANGER CENTER; CARINGSOUND PROVIDES MUSICIAN VISITS TO PEDIATRIC PATIENTS AND FAMILIES AT CONE HOSPITAL AND IS EXPANDING TO THE MEMORY CARE UNIT.
