STARFISH SERVES 100 PERCENT LOW-INCOME STUDENTS, AS DEFINED BY BEING ELIGIBLE FOR INDIANA'S TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. COLLEGE ACCESS AND READINESS PROGRAMMING OPERATES ON THE PREMISE THAT ONE- ON-ONE, COMMUNITY-BASED MENTORING IS THE MOST PROMISING METHOD OF MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF HIGH-ACHIEVING, LOW-INCOME STUDENTS. SCHOLAR SPECIALISTS SUPPORT THE MENTOR/STUDENT MATCH, ENSURING THAT A MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIP IS ESTABLISHED AND BENEFICIAL TO THE SCHOLAR. EACH SCHOLAR SPECIALIST OVERSEES UP TO 80 MATCHES, WORKS WITH THE SCHOLAR'S FAMILY AND SCHOOL, AND PLANS AND EXECUTES COLLEGE READINESS ACTIVITIES. THROUGH ONE- ON-ONE MENTORING, STARFISH INITIATIVE IS IMPROVING THE EDUCATIONAL FUTURES OF ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS IN INDIANAPOLIS.
