Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
HELPING PARTNERS WAS ORIGINALLY FORMED TO ASSIST GLEN RAVEN ASSOCIATES WHO EXPERIENCE FINANCIAL HARDSHIP AND THAT REMAINS OUR CORE MISSION. HOWEVER, OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, IT HAS BROADENED ITS SCOPE TO INCLUDE ASSISTANCE TO THE COMMUNITIES WITHIN ALAMANCE COUNTY. WE WORK PRIMARILY WITH THE ALAMANCE-BURLINGTON SCHOOL SYSTEM (ABSS) SOCIAL WORKERS AND PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES IN NEED WHO HAVE CHILDREN IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM. ASSISTANCE TAKES THE FORM OF PAYING UTILITY BILLS, ASSISTING WITH RENT/MORTGAGE PAYMENTS TO PREVENT EVICTION, CONTRIBUTING TO FUNERAL EXPENSES AND BURIAL LOTS, PAYMENT OF MEDICAL INSURANCE PREMIUMS TO AVOID INTERRUPTION IN COVERAGE, HOUSE FIRE VICTIMS, FLOOD VICTIMS, AND PROVIDING FOOD AND CLOTHING. OUR LARGEST PROJECTS EACH YEAR ARE CHRISTMAS CHEER AND A SCHOOL SUPPLIES DRIVE. THE SCHOOL SUPPLIES GO DIRECTLY TO ALAMANCE CITIZENS FOR EDUCATION'S (ACE) CLASSROOM CLOSET AND ALAMANCE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CHEER FUNDRAISER "ADOPTS" FAMILIES IN NEED WITH YOUNG CHILDREN, USUALLY ABOUT 30 CHILDREN IN TOTAL, AND ASKS GLEN RAVEN ASSOCIATES TO DONATE TOYS THAT ARE ON THE CHILDREN'S WISH LISTS. HELPING PARTNERS DONATES GIFT CARDS TO HELP THE PARENTS WITH FOOD OR OTHER NECESSITIES DURING THE HOLIDAYS. THE ITEMS ARE DELIVERED TO THE LOCAL CHRISTMAS CHEER OFFICE FOR PICKUP.
