TO PROVIDE AND PROMOTE PHYSICAL FITNESS, SPORTS TRAINING, AND ATHLETIC COMPETITION FOR MENTALLY CHALLENGED CITIZENS IN WEST VIRGINIA.

THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES YEAR-ROUND SPORTS TRAINING AND ATHLETIC COMPETITION IN A VARIETY OF OLYMPIC-STYLE SPORTS FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES (MANY OF WHOM ALSO HAVE PHYSICAL DISABILITIES) GIVING THEM THE ABILITY TO DEVELOP PHYSICAL FITNESS, DEMONSTRATE COURAGE AND EXPERIENCE JOY. THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES FIVE (5) STATE GAMES AND NEARLY 60 LOCAL COMPETITIONS INVOLVING 19 SPORTS WHICH BENEFITS APPROXIMATELY 4,000 SPECIAL OLYMPICS WEST VIRGINIA ATHELETES IN 33 COUNTIES. THE ORGANIZATION PROGRAMMING IS SUPPORTED BY A NETWORK OF MORE THAN 3,400 COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS.
