THE PURPOSE OF THE CORPORATION IS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT AZOREAN MARITIME HISTORY AND AZOREAN CULTURE, AND ESPECIALLY THE SKILLS AND CRAFTS RELATED TO AZOREAN WHALING HISTORY AND SEAMANSHIP.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS ISSUED TO FIRST TIME COLLEGE STUDENTS ($5,500). A TOTAL OF 5 SCHOLARSHIPS WERE GIVEN IN 2023 (4 AT $1,000 AND 1 AT $1,500). OTHER FUNDRAISING EXPENSES FOR THIS PROGRAM TOTALED $6,651 (SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER DINNER).
MAINTAINING AND INSURING 3 AUTHENTIC AZOREAN WHALEBOATS AND 1 AUTHENTIC YANKEE WHALEBOAT FOR COMMUNITY ROWING AND SAILING PROGRAMS, DEMONSTRATIONS, AND INTERNATIONAL REGATTAS.
HOSTING THE XII INTERNATION AZOREAN WHALEBOAT REGATTA IN NEW BEDFORD. THIS EVENT BRINGS CREWS, DIGNITARIES AND OTHER GUESTS FROM PORTUGAL TO COMPETE AGAINST TEAM USA IN BOTH ROWING AND SAILING OF AUTHENTIC AZOREAN WHALEBOATS AMONG 3 DAYS OF RACES. THERE IS A WEEK-LONG SERIES OF EVENTS THAT INCLUDE MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR CROSS CULTURAL EXCHANGES BETWEEN THE AZOREAN AND U.S. CREWS, AS WELL AS AMONG MANY GUESTS, DIGNITARIES AND SPECTATORS, WHICH DEEPENS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES. AMHS ALSO HOSTED A LOCAL ROWING TOURNAMENT OPEN TO THE BROAD ROWING COMMUNITY IN THE REGION, THE AMIGOS DO MAR RACE, IN NEW BEDFORD.
