THE MONTPELIER HUNT RACES ARE INTENDED TO PERPETUATE THE HISTORIC EQUESTRIAN ACTIVITIES AND PROMOTE PUBLIC AWARENESS OF MONTPELIER, THE HOME OF JAMES AND DOLLEY MADISON. THE RACES WERE ABLE TO RESUME AFTER THE HIATUS IN 2020 DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC.MONTPELIER RACES DRAW A CROWD OF ABOUT 18,000 SPECTATORS FROM A LARGE GEOGRAPHIC AREA, MAKING IT THE LARGEST ONE-DAY EVENT IN ORANGE COUNTY. FUNDS RAISED GO TO BENEFIT THE GENERAL OPERATIONS OF JAMES MADISON'S MONTPELIER. FUNDS RAISED ALSO SUPPORT SEVERAL COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, INCLUDING ORANGE COUNTY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, JR. ROTC OF ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL, RANDOLPH MACON EQUESTRIAN PROGRAM, AND GREAT EQUESTRIANS 4-H.
