ANNUAL VIRGINIA MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPALS CONFERENCE & EXPOSITION: VIRGINIA'S ONLY STATEWIDE CONFERENCE FOR MIDDLE LEVEL AND HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPALS IS THE ANNUAL VIRGINIA MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPALS CONFERENCE & EXPOSITION. FOR OVER 90 YEARS, THE VIRGINIA ASSOCIATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS (VASSP) AND THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION (VDOE) HAVE COLLABORATED TO DEVELOP AND ENHANCE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS' LEADERSHIP SKILLS, INCREASE THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF CURRENT EDUCATION ISSUES, AND EXPAND THEIR KNOWLEDGE BASE FOR SUCCESS.
PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM SERIES (PPS): THE VASSP PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM SERIES ARE PLANNED EXPERIENCES DESIGNED TO ENHANCE THE BELIEFS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS OF PRINCIPALS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS, LEAD TEACHERS, SUPPORT STAFF AND STUDENT LEADERS WHICH RESULT IN IMPROVED STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. THESE EXPERIENCES ARE GUIDED BY BEST PRACTICES IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, CURRENT RESEARCH, APPLICABLE STANDARDS, FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL MANDATES AND EXPECTATIONS AND SCHOOL NEEDS. THE VASSP PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM SERIES SUPPORTS GROWTH OF THE INDIVIDUAL, THE ESTABLISHMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF A PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY AND THE ACHIEVEMENT OF ASSOCIATION STRATEGIES AND EDUCATIONAL GOALS. IT ALSO RECOGNIZES AND ENCOURAGES THE PROFESSIONAL GROWTH THAT OFTEN OCCURS APART FOR THESE SPECIFIC EXPERIENCES THROUGH ADDITIONAL FORMAL EDUCATION, UNIQUE CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE, AND IDENTIFIED PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT.
PUBLIC POLICY ADVOCACY: VASSP IS ACTIVE IN THE POLICY ARENA MAINLY AT THE STATE LEVEL SUPPORTING AN EXISTING ADVOCACY ORGANIZATION, LAUNCHING NEW ADVOCACY INITIATIVES, INITIATING AND FOLLOWING STATE EDUCATION POLICY DIRECTIVES, SUPPORTING POLICY THAT ENHANCES THE ROLE OF THE PRINCIPAL, PROMOTING INCREASED STATE FUNDING FOR EDUCATION AND PROMOTING INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP.
