Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
PROMOTING TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION THROUGH THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM OF FAIRFAX COUNTY, VIRGINIA. ITS MOST SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR WERE ITS STUDENT RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT IN SPRINGFIELD, VIRGINIA, ITS STUDENT AUTO SALES PROGRAM IN WHICH STUDENTS WERE PROVIDED WITH TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES IN AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY AND AUTOMOTIVE COLLISION SERVICE AND ITS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE STUDENT AUTO SALES (SAS) PROGRAM IS A UNIQUE AND INNOVATIVE PROGRAM IN THE COMMONWEALTH AS IT IS THE ONLY HIGH SCHOOL BASED AUTOMOTIVE DEALERSHIP. VEHICLES ARE GENEROUSLY DONATED BY THE COMMUNITY TO ONE OF THE 13 AUTOMOTIVEPROGRAMS WITHIN FCPS AND ASSESSED FOR SALE. SALEABLE VEHICLES ARE REPAIRED BY AUTOMOTIVE STUDENTS AND RESOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP. STUDENTS ARE EXPOSED TO THE ENTIRE PROCESS AND MIRRORS THAT OF A DEALERSHIP: EVALUATION, REPAIR, PREPARATION FOR SALE, VA INSPECTION, PRICING, AND FINALLY THE SALE. VEHICLES ARE SOLD AT OUR MARSHALL ACADEMY DEALERSHIP TO WALK-IN BUYERS OR SOLD ON A PUBLIC AUCTION SITE.THIS SCHOOL YEAR, THE BUSINESS & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT OFFICE HAS PARTNERED WITH SAS TO ACCEPT DONATED CARS FROM THE METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON AIRPORT AUTHORITY. SAS HAS CURRENTLY RECEIVED OVER 17 CARS FROM THIS PARTNERSHIP AND CONTINUES TO FOSTER THIS GROWING RELATIONSHIP. WILLOW SPRINGS TOWING GRACIOUSLY DONATES THEIR TOWING TRUCKS TO DELIVER THE VEHICLES TO THE MARSHALL ACADEMY DEALERSHIP.FOR THE 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR, ENDING THIRD QUARTER APRIL 15, 2023, SAS RECEIVED 170 DONATIONS AND SOLD 107 VEHICLES WHICH TRANSLATED INTO $140,942 IN SALES. FROM THAT AMOUNT, $105,706.50 WAS RETURNED TO SELLING SCHOOLS FOR PROGRAM IMPROVEMENTS, TOOLS, AND OTHER NECESSITIES.
RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM: THE RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION SITE AT SPRING VILLAGE IS QUICKLY BEING COMPLETED WITH BEAUTIFUL, STUDENTBUILT HOMES. A TOTAL OF 18 HOMES ARE SLOTTED FOR COMPLETION AND TO DATE, TWELVE HOMES HAVE BEEN FINISHED BY THE STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS. FATE AND FCPS HAVE HAD MEETINGS WITH FAIRFAX COUNTY EXECUTIVES AND PRIVATE INDUSTRY PERSONNEL HOPING TO IDENTIFY FUTURE SITES. THIS IS VITALLY IMPORTANT TO THE MISSION OF FATE AND THE SUCCESS OF THE STUDENTS OF FAIRFAX COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS. THE PROCESS OF IDENTIFYING AND SECURING A SUITABLE BUILDING SITE IS EXTREMELY TIME CONSUMING AND ONCE A SITE IS FOUND, THERE CAN BE YEARS OF PREPARATION BEFORE WE CAN BEGIN BUILDING. FATE IS OPEN TO ALL IDEAS OF CONSTRUCTION VARYING FROM SINGLE FAMILY TO TOWNHOME TO MULTI-FAMILY HOMES. IDEALLY, FATE WOULD PREFER A LOT OF 10 ACRES OR MORE TO ACCOMMODATE THE CONSTRUCTION OFFICE AND ON-SITE CLASSROOM. WE HAVE MANY INTERNAL RESOURCES WITHIN THE FATE BOARD OF DIRECTORS TO PROCEED ONCE THE JOB SITE IS LOCATED. OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE A SEAMLESS TRANSITION FROM PHASE 2 TO PHASE 3 AS WE CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THE COUNTY OF FAIRFAX AND FCPS.. IN OCTOBER 2022, LOT 11 WAS SOLD.
SCHOLARSHIPS: IN THE LAST 15 YEARS, FATE HAS AWARDED 123 ACADEMIC AND TOOL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS TOTALING OVER $329,800 IN ORDER TO PROMOTE CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION FOR GRADUATING SENIORS THAT ARE PURSUING POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION IN ONE OF OUR THREE MAIN PROGRAM FOCUSES: RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, AND SCHOOL AUTO SALES.
