FACILITY AND FOOD SERVICES FOCUS ON MAINTENANCE AND SHOWING OF FORMER PRESIDENT JAMES MONROE'S HOME AND OPENING THE BUILDING TO THE PUBLIC FOR VARIOUS EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES INVOLVING THE ARTS. ALSO, CLUB AND PROGRAM SERVICES FOCUS ON MAINTAINING THE ART GALLERIES AND PROVIDING A CONCERT SERIES TO SHOWCASE THE WORK OF VARIOUS ARTISTS.
THE NATIONAL AWARD FOR ARTS WRITING IS A PROGRAM FUNDED BY ENDOWMENTS TO ANNUALLY AWARD EXCELLENCE IN WRITING ABOUT THE ARTS FOR A BROAD AUDIENCE. THE AWARD IS GIVEN TO THE AUTHOR OF A BOOK ABOUT ANY ARTISTIC DISCIPLINE PUBLISHED IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR. THE AWARD CELEBRATES PROSE THAT IS LUCID, LUMINOUS, CLEAR, AND INSPIRING. THE WINNER'S PRIZE IS $10,000.
THE ARTS CLUB USES FUNDS RECEIVED THROUGH AN AIR RIGHTS LEASING AGREEMENT TO SUPPORT SOME OF OUR OUTREACH COMMUNITY PROGRAMS - EXHIBIT OPENINGS, LITERARY EVENINGS, EVENINGS WITH EXTRAORDINARY ARTISTS, AND FRIDAY NOON CONCERT SERIES. THESE EVENTS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. ALSO, THE FUNDS ARE USED TO MAINTAIN AND PRESERVE THE HISTORIC JAMES MONROE HOUSE, WHICH IS LISTED IN THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES.
THE ARTS CLUB OF WASHINGTON SPONSORS AN ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION FOR STUDENTS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18 AND 26 WHO ARE PURSUING STUDIES IN THE ARTS AT A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, MARYLAND, OR VIRGINIA. THE SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS.
