REDD+ CARBON CREDIT / NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS FINANCING: TO ENSURE SUSTAINABLE, LONG-TERM SUPPORT FOR THE BONOBO PEACE FOREST, BCI IS ACTIVELY DEVELOPING REDD+ (REDUCED EMISSIONS FROM DEFORESTATION AND DEGRADATION) CARBON CREDIT FINANCING. FORGED NEW PARTNERSHIPS AND ENGAGED IN EXTENSIVE PREPARATIONS WITH DRC GOVERNMENT, LOCAL PARTNERS, INVESTORS, AND TECHNICAL EXPERTS. ENTERED INTO A TERM SHEET WITH CARBON STREAMING CORPORATION AND SECURED INITIAL ADVANCE TO DEVELOP THE PROJECTS AT SANKURU AND KOKOLOPORI. GIVEN THE HEIGHTENED URGENCY TO MITIGATE CLIMATE CHANGE, SUSTAINED FUNDING MECHANISMS TO PRESERVE THE STANDING RAINFOREST--AND THE BIODIVERSITY WITHIN--ARE A PARAMOUNT PRIORITY.
THE BONOBO PEACE FOREST: A NETWORK OF COMMUNITY-MANAGED FOREST RESERVES AND CONCESSIONS, SPANNING A VAST AREA OF RAINFOREST HABITAT. INCLUDES TWO NATIONALLY GAZETTED NATURE RESERVES: KOKOLOPORI BONOBO RESERVE & SANKURU NATURE RESERVE, TOGETHER ENCOMPASING ALMOST 9 MILLION ACRES, PLUS FIVE ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY FORESTS PREPARING FOR LEGAL PROTECTION, WHERE BONOBOS ARE PROTECTED. CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR BONOBO MONITORING AT LILUNGU WITH THREE HABITUATED GROUPS. WITH THE HELP OF THE CDC, HELPED TO CONTAIN MONKEYPOX OUTBREAK AT KOKOLOPORI, WHICH THREATENED BONOBOS AS WELL AS HUMANS. IN-SITU ACTIVITIES INCLUDE RESERVE MANAGEMENT, WILDLIFE PROTECTION, AND SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD INITIATIVES.
