THE LID CENTER IS UNDER A MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT TO ASSIST PRINCE GEORGES COUNTY, MD WITH STORMWATER MANAGEMENT GOALS. THIS INCLUDES PARTNERING AND HIRING OTHER NGOS, CONTRACTORS AND CONSULTANTS BASED IN PG COUNTY TO PARTICIPATE IN PROJECTS AND GAIN CAPACITY ON LID APPROACHES. THE FIVE PROJECT AREAS ARE 1 MUNICIPAL NPDES PHASE II SUPPORT AND REPORTING 2 MUNICIPAL AND COUNTY NPDES PROPERTY MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE, SWWP SUPPORT 3 GREEN CONTRACTOR TRAINING AND PUBLIC PARTICIPATION AND EDUCATION 4 TECHNICAL PLANNING, DESIGN PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND OUTREACH SUPPORT AND 5 GRANT MANAGEMENT SERVICES.
THROUGH THIS CONTRACT, THE LID CENTER IS DEVELOPING PROGRAMMATIC APPROACHES AND SUPPORTING RESEARCH FOR THE FIRST STORMWATER PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP IN THE NATION. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAM IS TO DEVELOP A NATIONAL MODEL ON THE APPROACH. THE WORK INCLUDES ECONOMIC ASSESSMENTS AND RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT OF JOBS PROGRAMS, AND INNOVATIVE APPROACHES FOR PLANNING AND DESIGN FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF STORMWATER COMPLIANCE CONTROLS.
THE LID CENTER PARTNERED WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND DEVELOPED PILOT PROJECTS WITHIN THREE FOOD DESERTS IN WASHINGTON DC. ONE SITE WAS MONITORED FOR WATER QUALITY BENEFITS. THE PILOT PROJECTS WILL BE USED TO DEVELOP A COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO DEVELOP GARDEN TEMPLATES, TRAINING, OUTREACH ACTIVITIES, AND MODELS THAT CAN BE IMPLEMENTED THROUGHOUT THE CHESAPEAKE BAY REGION.
