WASHINGTON DCS PREMIER CONTEMPORARY PHYSICAL THEATER SEEKS TO REDEFINE THEATRE BY DEVISING A UNIQUE AND INNOIVATIVE BLEND OF STAGE MOVEMENT, DANCE, TEXT, AND MUSIC WHILE INVESTING IN ARTISTS GROWTH, AND CREATING UNFORGETTABLE VISCERAL EXPERIENCES FOR EVERY AUDIENCE.

MAIN STAGE: THE THEATER PRODUCED FIVE MAJOR MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS DURING THE 2022-23 SEASON: HOST & GUEST, DRACULA, SNOW MAIDEN, BEAUTY & THE BEAST, AND CYRANO DE BERGERAC. THE SEASON OPENER, HOST & GUEST, WAS A MULTI-AWARDWINNINGPRODUCTION THAT SAW CRITICAL ACCLAIM AND WAS FOLLOWED BY THE MAJOR CRITICAL AND FINANCIAL SUCCESS OF DRACULA. SNOW MAIDEN OPENED IN DECEMBER AND REPRESENTED THE FIRST NEW, MAJOR FAMILY SHOW DESIGNED FOR TOURING, AND THAT SHOW HAS SUBSEQUENTLY TOURED FOR HUNDREDS OF PERFORMANCES AT SCHOOLS AND PUBLIC PERFORMANCE SPACES AROUND THE REGION. AFTER THE NEAR FATAL ACCIDENT OF PAATA TSIKURISHVILI, THE FOUNDER AND CEO, THE NEW PRODUCTION OF WAR OF THE WORLDS WAS POSTPONED INDEFINITELY, AND REPLACED BY A REMOUNT OF THE SUCCESSFUL 2014 PRODUCTION OF BEAUTY & THE BEAST, WHICH WENT ON TO SUBSTANTIAL PRESS COVERAGE, FAVORABLE REVIEWS, AND POSITIVE TICKET SALES. THE SEASON ENDED WITH CYRANO DE BERGERAC, DIRECTED BY AND STARRING AUDIENCE FAVORITE VATO TSIKURISHVILI.
EDUCATION AND OUTREACH: OUR EDUCATION PROGRAM REACHED 14,000 PEOPLE IN 2022-2023. WE GAVE THIRTY-ONE PERFORMANCES OF OUR TOURING SHOWS THE MIRACULOUS MAGICAL BALLOON AND SNOW MAIDEN THROUGHOUT THE REGION, PERFORMED OUR MAINSTAGESHOWS CINDERELLA AND THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS FOR NEARLY 4500 STUDENTS, AND SERVED 2800 STUDENTS DIRECTLY THROUGH HANDS-ON STUDIO PROGRAMS AND SCHOOL RESIDENCIES THROUGHOUT VIRGINIA, MARYLAND, AND DC.WE ALSO PREMIERED A NEW TOURING SHOW, SNOW MAIDEN, CREATED AND DIRECTED BY SYNETIC ASSOCIATE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR AND CO-FOUNDER IRINA TSIKURISHVILI. SNOW MAIDEN PREMIERED IN WASHINGTON DC AND WENT INTO DEVELOPMENT AS A MAINSTAGE SHOW FOR THE 22-23 SEASON. SYNETIC ALSO ENGAGED IN PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE SMITHSONIAN, BALTIMORE CHORAL ARTS, CASTLETON FESTIVAL, EASTERN MENNONITE UNIVERSITY, AND DC PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT: IN JUNE 2022, 16 PROFESSIONAL PERFORMERS WERE ENGAGED IN INTENSIVE ACTING AND MOVEMENT TRAINING, FREE OF CHARGE, SIX DAYS A WEEK FOR TWO WEEKS. FOR OUR TEEN AND PRE-TEEN PRE-PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS, SYNETIC ENGAGED 22 TEENS AND 9 PRE-TEENS. IN APRIL 2023, THE SYNETIC TEEN COMPANY PERFORMED SYNETICS THE TAMING OF THE SHREW FOR 750 AUDIENCE MEMBERS OVER TWO WEEKENDS.
