CAMP ATTAWAY SERVES CHILDREN WITH COMPLEX EMOTIONAL AND BEHAVIORAL DISORDERS MANY OF WHOM CARRY MULTIPLE DIAGNOSES INCLUDING PTSD, BIPOLAR DISORDER, DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, OCD, FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME, ADHD, AUTISM, OPPOSITIONAL DEFIANT DISORDER, INTERMITTENT EXPLOSIVE DISORDERS AND OTHERS. CHILDREN LEARN HOW TO BREAK OUT OF THEIR NEGATIVE CYCLES AND LEARN HOW TO RECOGNIZE AND CONTROL THEIR EMOTIONS AND BEHAVIORS WHILE MAKING FRIENDS, SOMETIMES FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THEIR LIVES. WHILE LEARNING, CHILDREN ENJOY SPORTS, NATURE, ART THERAPY, ROCK CLIMBING, AND SWIMMING.CHILDREN WORK ON SELF-REGULATION AND LEARN HOW TO RECOGNIZE AND MANAGE THEIR NEGATIVE EMOTIONS. THEY LEARN AND PRACTICE NEW COPING AND SELF-REGULATION SKILLS. THERE IS A 2 TO 1 CHILD TO STAFF RATIO WHERE CHILDREN WORK IN SMALL GROUPS LED BY HIGHLY TRAINED PROFESSIONALS FROM THE FIELDS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION, PSYCHOLOGY, COUNSELING AND PSYCHIATRY. CHILDREN WORK WITH STAFF IN SETTING DAILY AND WEEKLY BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT GOALS WHILE FORGING FRIENDSHIPS AND HAVING SUMMER FUN. CAMP ATTAWAY ALSO HAS A COUNSELOR IN TRAINING (C-I-T) PROGRAM FOR FORMER CAMPERS WHO RECEIVE 1:1 COACHING, AND LEARN JOB SKILLS THAT PREPARE THEM FOR FUTURE EMPLOYMENT. INDIVIDUAL GOALS ARE SET THAT INCLUDE COMPUTER, OFFICE AND ORGANIZATION SKILLS CUSTOMIZED TO THEIR SITUATION.FURTHERMORE, CAMP ATTAWAY SUPPORTS THE MENTAL HEALTH OF FAMILIES BY PROVIDING YEAR-ROUND PARENT EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND SUPPORT GROUPS LED BY A LICENSED SOCIAL WORKER OR CHILD PSYCHOLOGIST. ADDITIONALLY, CAMP ATTAWAY PROVIDES INTENSIVE TRAINING AND MENTORING OF STAFF BY AN ONSITE CHILD PSYCHOLOGIST AND PROGRAM DIRECTOR WHO BOTH HAVE EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH CHILDREN WITH COMPLEX BEHAVIORS AND MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES.
