PROMOTE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND DEVELOP SAFE WORK PRACTICES RELATED TO HIGH TEMPERATURE INSULATION WOOL ("HTIW") AND PROVIDE INFORMATION TO REGULATORY AUTHORITIES.

ON BEHALF OF HTIW COALITION, THE UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI IS CONDUCTING A MORTALITY STUDY AT AN HTIW COALITION MEMBER COMPANY SITE WHO ARE INVOLVED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF HIGH TEMPERATURE INSULATING WOOL.


HTIW COALITION AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY ENTERED INTO AN EPA CONSENT AGREEMENT WHICH INCORPORATED RELEVANT PROVISIONS OF SUBPART B, C.F.R. 790, WHICH PROVIDES FOR MONITORING OF WORKPLACE EXPOSURE LEVELS OF HIGH TEMPERATURE INSULATING WOOL. THE CONSENT AGREEMENT EXPIRED IN JUNE 1998, BUT HTIW COALITION AND ITS MEMBERS HAVE CONTINUED THE MONITORING AND ARE CONTINUING TO WORK WITH EPA, OSHA AND NIOSH. HTIW COALITION HAS ENTERED INTO A VOLUNTARY WRITTEN AGREEMENT WITH OSHA, CALLED PSP 2022, WHICH INCORPORATES THE MONITORING PROGRAM. HTIW COALITION AND ITS MEMBERS CONTINUE TO IMPLEMENT THEIR PRODUCT STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM WHICH INCLUDES DEVELOPMENT OF A WEBSITE AND NUMEROUS PUBLICATIONS AND OTHER MATERIALS FOR DISTRIBUTION TO USERS.
