GROWING LEADERS IS A CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM THAT PREPARES TEENS TO TRANSITION FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO COLLEGE OR THE WORKFORECE. SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES THIS PROGRAM YEAR INCLUDED WORKSHOPS AND DISCUSSIONS ON HEALTHY EATING HABITS, ENGAGING IN AND TRACKING REGULAR EXCERCISE, DEVELOPING MENTORING RELATIONSHIPS, FINANCIAL FITNESS AND OTHER SOFT SKILLS NEEDED BY YOUNG PEOPLE AS THEY GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL.
IN COMMEMORATION OF ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY, THE CHAPTER HOSTED A COMMUNITY FORUM ENTITLED IN CONVERSATIONS WITH THE CONGRESSWOMEN. THE EVENT WAS ATTENDED BY MORE THAN 300 COMMUNITY LEADERS AND YOUTH. THE DISCUSSION INCLUDED IMPORTANT POLICY TOPICS OF ADVOCACY FOR URBAN EDUCATION, PRESERVATION OF THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT, IMPORTANCE OF VOTER EDUCATION AND GUARDING AGAINST VOTER SUPPRESSION, CLIMATE CHANGE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES.
SAFE ON THE SCENE IS A COLLABORATION BETWEEN RECOVERY RESOURCES, CARE ALLIANCE HEALTH CENTER AND PLANNED PARENTHOOD OF GREATER CLEVELAND TO INCREASE AWARENESS ABOUT HIV/AIDS DISEASE AND HIV TESTING IN THE GREATER CLEVELAND AREA. OUR ORGANIZATION FOCUSED EFFORTS ON TARGETING YOUTH AGES 15-19 YEARS WITH A MULTI FACETED MARKETING CAMPAIGN TO COMBAT THE DISPROPRITIONAL INCREASE OF NEW HIV INFECTIONS WITHIN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY
