Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE SENATE EMPLOYEES' CHILD CARE CENTER IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A COMPREHENSIVE AND HIGHLY INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAM THAT FOSTERS THE PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, AND INTELLECTUAL GROWTH OF EVERY CHILD ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM. CHILDREN ARE OFFERED AGE-APPROPRIATE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AS DESCRIBED IN THE CENTER'S CURRICULUM. PARENTS ARE EXPECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ONGOING ACTIVITIES OF THE CENTER AND TO COLLABORATE WITH THE STAFF IN THE OPERATION OF THE CENTER. THE SENATE EMPLOYEES' CHILD CARE CENTER IS A NON-PROFIT, 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION GOVERNED BY A BOARD OF DIRECTORS. MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS ARE ELECTED BY THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE CORPORATION TO SERVE STAGGERING TWO-YEAR TERMS. GENERALLY, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD ARE ALSO PARENTS OF CHILDREN ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM. BECAUSE THE CENTER IS A NON- PROFIT AND PARENT-GOVERNED ORGANIZATION, IT IS NATURALLY ORIENTED TO THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE COMMUNITY OF CHILDREN IT SERVES. THE GOAL OF THE CENTER IS TO ASSURE CHILDREN DAILY EXPOSURE TO A SAFE, NURTURING, ENRICHING, AND AGE-APPROPRIATE ENVIRONMENT. TO ASSURE THESE GOALS ARE MET, THE CENTER USES AS GUIDELINES THE STANDARDS PROVIDED BY ITS ACCREDITING BODY, THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM, A DIVISION OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE EDUCATION OF YOUNG CHILDREN (NAEYC). THE CENTER ORIGINALLY BECAME ACCREDITED IN 1989 AND WAS THE FIRST CENTER IN WASHINGTON, DC, TO RECEIVE ACCREDITATION. THE CENTER HAS BEEN CONTINUOUSLY ACCREDITED SINCE THAT TIME. OUR PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY, CURRICULUM, STAFF, STRUCTURE, AND GOVERNANCE ARE CRITICAL COMPONENTS IN THE QUALITY OF THE PROGRAM. HOWEVER, THAT IS NOT OUR ONLY RESOURCE. WE TURN TO EACH OTHER - PROFESSIONALS WITH VARYING LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE AND VARIED TALENTS, AND TO THE PARENTS WITH THEIR EXTENSIVE ARRAY OF EXPERIENCES - TO CONTINUALLY EVALUATE AND ENRICH OUR PROGRAM.
