WAGS-WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SOCCER,FOUNDATION-SUPPORTS ORGANIZATIONS THAT RECOGNIZE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE DEDICATED THEIR LIVES TO THE GAME OF SOCCER AND PROVIDED OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH VARIOUS METHODS FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS INVOLVED IN THE GAME OF SOCCER. SPECIFIC EFFORTS SUPPORTED INCLUDE SOCCER HALL OF FAME AWARD TO RECOGNIZED SUPERIOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE GAME OF SOCCER. WAGS HAS INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH THROUGH OUR SPONSORSHIP OF TWO WAGS RESOURCE CENTERS IN UGANDA(GULU AND KATWE) DEDICATED TO IMPROVING THE LIVES OF WOMEN AND GIRLS. BOTH ARE MANAGED BY THE ROBERT KATENDE INITIATIVE. IN ADDITION, WAGS TOOK FURTHER STEPS TO EMPOWER WOMEN THROUGH SOCCER BY GAINING INVOLVEMENT THROUGH A SPONSORSHIP WITH THE WASHINGTON SPIRIT. THIS SPONSORSHIP IS BASED ON IMPROVING THE LIVES AND PROVIDING EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES TO FEMALE PROFESSIONAL SOCCER PLAYERS. THE WAGS FOUNDATION SPONSORED GRASSROOTS COACHING COURSES PROVIDING A PATHWAY FOR FEMALES TO GET STARTED IN COACHING. THESE COURSES WERE MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH ADVERTISING TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO CO-SPONSORED WITH THE WASHINGTON SPIRIT PROFESSIONAL WOMENS TEAM AN ICONIC WOMEN IN SOCCER AWARD HONORING WOMEN WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE ADVANCEMENT OF WOMEN IN THE GAME. WAGS AWARDED FOUR COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS TO HELP GIRLS TO CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION AND ALSO PLAY SOCCER IN COLLEGE. THESE ARE GIRLS THAT HAVE ALSO DONE COMMUNITY SERVICE IN SOCCER HELPING OTHERS. EVERYONE MEETING ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS WERE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. WAGS HOSTED AND SPONSORED A LEGACY WOMENS SOCCER GROUP TO HELP WOMEN TO CONTINUE THEIR PATH IN SOCCER AFTER 50 YEARS OLD. WAGS PROVIDED SUPPORT FOR THE WOMEN TO PLAY IN A TOURNAMENT WITH PATHWAYS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR THESE WOMEN TO REACH OUT TO OTHER WOMEN IN THE GAME AND EMPOWER THEM TO REACH THEIR GOALS IN SOCCER THROUGH OUR 2022 COURSE OFFERINGS.
WAGS TOURNAMENT- THE PREMIER GIRLS SOCCER TOURNAMENT IN THE UNITED STATES. THE TOURNAMENT HAS BEEN HELD ANNUALLY SINCE 1975. THIS YEAR'S TOURNAMENT WAS HELD ON OCTOBER 8TH-10TH, 2022. 511 TEAMS AGES U-9 THROUGH U-19 PARTICIPATED AND COACHES FROM MANY COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES ATTENDED.
WAGS SPONSORED COURSES TO HELP WOMEN OBTAIN THEIR LICENSES IN COACHING AND REFEREEING. TWO NATIONAL C LICENSE COURSES WERE HELD IN JANUARY AND APRIL 2022, ONE IN VIRGINIA AND ONE IN NEW JERSEY. THE PROGRAM GENERALLY COVERED ABOUT A 6 MONTH PERIOD AND INCLUDED ONLINE AND IN PERSON PARTICIPATION, WITH FILIMING OF THE COACHING ACTVITIES AS PART OF THE NATIONAL CERTIFICATION PROCESS. THE PARTICIPANTS WERE REIMBURSED FOR THE TRAVEL AND REGISTRATION FEES UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE COURSE. WAGS PAID ALL COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE COURSE INCLUDING FIELD,FACILITIES AND INSTRUCTOR FEES. AS A RESULT OF THIS PROGRAM 39 PARTICIPANTS RECEIVED THEIR NATIONAL C LICENSE CERTIFICATION. WAGS SPONSORED GRASSROOTS COURSES WERE HELD IN MARCH 2022, TO INTRODUCE NEW/BEGINING LEVEL PARTICIPANTS TO COACHING AND/OR REFEREEING. 22 WOMEN PARTICIPATED IN THE GRASSROOTS COACHING COURSE AND 40 WOMEN PARTICIPATED IN THE GRASSROOTS REFEREEING COURSE. WAGS PAID ALL COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE COURSE INCLUDING FIELD, FACILITIES AND INSTRUCTOR FEES. AS A RESULT OF THIS PROGRAM 62 PARTICIPANTS RECEIVED THEIR GRASSROOTS COACHING OR REFEREE CERTIFICATION.
