WOMEN IN FILM & VIDEO (WIFV) PROVIDES PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES FOR SCREEN-BASED MEDIA MAKERS, CELEBRATES WOMEN'S CREATIVE AND TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENTS IN MEDIA, AND ADVOCATES FOR PARITY IN FRONT OF AND BEHIND THE CAMERA TO ENSURE THAT ALL VOICES CAN BE HEARD. A 501(C)(3) NON-PROFIT COMMUNITY BENEFIT ORGANIZATION FOUNDED IN 1979, WIFV IS THE PREMIER PROFESSIONAL RESOURCE FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT SUCCESSFUL MEDIA CAREERS IN THE DC-METRO REGION. ALL GENRES, GENDERS, AND EXPERIENCE LEVELS ARE WELCOME. OUR RESOURCES, CONNECTIONS AND ADVOCACY SUPPORT A VIBRANT, CREATIVE MEDIA COMMUNITY. WE PROVIDE MORE THAN 200 SKILLS-BASED WORKSHOPS PER YEAR.

WOMEN IN FILM & VIDEO (WIFV) PROVIDED MORE THAN 200 PROGRAMS DURING THE 2023-24 PROGRAM YEAR TO SATISFY THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND GENERAL EDUCATION NEEDS OF ITS MEMBERS AND PUBLIC ATTENDEES. MOST MEMBERS ATTEND MULTIPLE EVENTS PER PROGRAM YEAR. ALL WIFV PROGRAMS ARE OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND WE HAD MORE THAN 3500 NON-MEMBERS ATTEND THE WEDNESDAY ONES, ROUNDTABLES, MASTER CLASSES, SPECIAL INTEREST WORKSHOPS, AND SCRIPTDC. THE MEETINGS PRESENT INDUSTRY LEADERS WHO SHARE THEIR INSIGHTS AND PROVIDE ATTENDEES WITH INFO TO HONE THEIR SKILLS TO BECOME BETTER FREELANCERS, EMPLOYERS, AND EMPLOYEES. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS WERE HOSTED PRIMARILY ONLINE FROM JULY 1, 2023 TO JUNE 30, 2024. WE FOUND A BROADER GEOGRAPHIC REPRESENTATION SINCE ATTENDEES DIDN'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH COMMUTING. WIFV NOMINATES FILMS ANNUALLY FOR INCLUSION INTO THE NATIONAL FILM REGISTRY. WIFV CONTINUES ITS FISCAL SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM TO SUPPORT WOMEN-CREATED MEDIA AND ADDED NEW PROJECTS TO THAT PROGRAM. FISCALLY-SPONSORED PROJECTS RECEIVED FUNDS FROM A VARIETY OF INDIVIDUALS, FOUNDATIONS, AND GOVERNMENT ENTITIES.
WOMEN IN FILM & VIDEO (WIFV) PROVIDES ONE PAST PRESIDENT MID-CAREER DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP TO FURTHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR A MEMBER AT LEAST 10 YEARS FROM THEIR LAST DEGREE TO ATTEND THE MAINE MEDIA WORKSHOPS. WIFV AWARDED TWO SEED FUND GRANTS FOR DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKERS DURING THIS REPORTING PERIOD. IT AWARDED A WIFV SHORT NARRATIVE FILM FINISHING FUND GRANT DURING THIS PERIOD THAT PROVIDES EXTENSIVE IN-KIND SERVICES FOR POST-PRODUCTION SERVICES INCLUDING COLOR CORRECTION, AUDIO MIX, GRAPHICS/TITLES, AND FILM FESTIVAL CONSULTATION.
WOMEN IN FILM & VIDEO (WIFV) OFFERS NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES AT ALL EVENTS AND PROVIDED SEVERAL SPECIFIC NETWORKING EVENTS TO AID MEMBERS IN MAKING CONNECTIONS ACROSS THE MID-ATLANTIC MEDIA INDUSTRY. WIFV HOSTED A FALL OPEN HOUSE, HOLIDAY PARTY IN JANUARY, AND INFORMAL EVENTS PROVIDE A RANGE OPPORTUNITIES FOR NEW AND EXISTING MEMBERS TO NETWORK WITH EACH OTHER AND NON-MEMBERS. MANY NETWORKING EVENTS WERE HELD ONLINE FROM JULY 1, 2023 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2024 WITH REGULAR IN-PERSON COFFEE EVENTS IN ANNAPOLIS, MD AND FREDERICK, MD. NETWORKING EVENTS WERE HELD SPECIFICALLY FOR CAREGIVERS, LGBTQ+, AND BIPOC MEDIAMAKERS.
WOMEN IN FILM & VIDEO (WIFV) DISTRIBUTED A MEMBER E-NEWSLETTER 11 TIMES, A MEMBERS IN THE NEWS E-NEWSLETTER 12 TIMES, A MONDAY MISSIVE 51 TIMES FOR ITS 900+ MEMBERS AND THE 4000+ NON-MEMBERS WHO HAVE SIGNED UP FOR E-NEWSLETTER DELIVERY BETWEEN JULY 1, 2023 AND JUNE 30, 2024. THE E-NEWSLETTER PROMOTES MEMBER ACCOMPLISHMENTS, INTRODUCES NEW OPPORTUNITIES AND RESEARCH, AND INFORMS READERS ABOUT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS FROM WIFV AND OTHER MEDIA ORGANIZATIONS. THE E-NEWSLETTER AND MEMBERS IN THE NEWS ARE ARCHIVED ON THE WIFV WEBSITE FOR GENERAL PUBLIC ACCESS. THE E-NEWSLETTER HAS DRAMATICALLY INCREASED THE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION IT PRESENTS BECAUSE OF THE ELECTRONIC FORMAT AND NOW INCLUDES LIVE LINKS TO INFORMATION AND MEMBERS PROFILED MAKING THE MATERIAL EVEN MORE ACCESSIBLE VIA SEARCH ENGINES.
